CJ finally gave my
Money back. I ordered another wheel from Summit Racing. It was Boyd Coddington brand, which I ordered because it was cheaper than others.
Turned out to be the exact same wheel I got from CJ Pony with exact same lug nut hole issue.
So, I took my 60 degree tapered reamer bit I ordered and drilled the holes to form a tapered seat. All three wheels have now had the holes repaired and one rim straightened out to be good enough to be a spare wheel.
I mounted two on the front today and now the car has no vibration or wobbling issues due to improperly formed lug nut holes. I ordered another 235x60/15 tire to go in the trunk.
I have two original 15x7 Magnums to sell now. One has 2” center hole (original 69-70 Boss 302) and one has 2-1/8” center hole.

My question is,
Would you buy another set for another car knowing what you know?
I am going to pull the trigger on a set of the Steel/chrome 500’s or a set of the Legendary aluminum 500’s by the weekend.
I’m dealing with a 66 coupe, but agree that a 69/70 almost has to have the chrome version. Likewise for the 71-73
I love the look of real chrome but at what price/headache?
Thanks for an honest response.

If you go into it knowing you will need to buy a $35 60 degree countersink (for steel), it is no big deal to make the wheels right. But, you do HAVE TO MAKE THEM RIGHT or they won't bolt on correctly. Other than the lug nut holes, the wheels seem to be just fine. I mounted the two new ones on the front and they balanced out fine and run true.
One consideration for use on a 65-66 is these wheels actually have a measured 4-3/8" backspacing, not the 4-1/4" as advertised. That will allow them to fit just that much better with less chance of rubbing.
I saw a 69 Boss 302 at a show last weekend that had American Racing alloy 15x7 Magnums on it. They had a very high polish and had original style center caps and looked quite at home on the car.
Remember the wheel I put in my press to make it unusable? CJPony told me to keep the two wheels. I straightened that one out with a hammer and it is going in the trunk as a spare tire. I even bought a new 235x60R15 tire that matches the other four tires. I got the wheel so straight you cannot tell it was messed with, and the main damage was done on the back side, even though straightening it back out made it totally usable.

I have decided to go with the Legendary Wheels Co. aluminum 500's
I put a set of the rally version on a friend's car and the quality was really good, I know it doesn't have the same feel as chrome and I think the 65/66 can pull it off better than a 69/70. I looked at one of the chrome ones Ky Mustang had in the show room and the chrome was cloudy is spots.
This photo pushed me in this direction, not chrome but it looks good

I had 15x7 Magnums on my 66 many years ago with 225x60R15 tires. Fit good but had to roll fender lip in front
