Ok, it didn’t work. I have the 351 in and did have a C6 with Heddman headers. Fit fine. I am swapping to an AOD and am finding the passengers side of the bell housing is biting hard into the header. I dont think I’ll be getting it in with these headers. Does anyone have any experience with this set up and have a header recommendation? Thank you ahead of time. FYI- I have searched some but am not finding much.

Are your headers mild or stainless steel? On my mild steel Headman Hedders when I installed an aod, with the car on block cribbing I layed on my back and with my feet pushed the collector outward for clearance. I tried the same technique with stainless headers without luck.

I did exact same thing with Hedmans to move them over a bit. Mine were ceramic coated stainless.
I now have JBA headers on my 66 with 427 (351w based) they fit great and I can get a socket on most of the bolts at the top.

In my 68, I have the 351W with JBA coated shorty headers. I also have a 4R70W. The headers fit fine with no interference anywhere. I did have to trim off a small (1/2") protrusion at the fwd end of the block on the driver's side to get that header installed, but it clears everywhere else.

The headers I have are uncoated long tube headman’s. The other issue I see is that I can barely get a finger between the brake booster and one of the tubes as well. I’m concerned about cooking it, I do have it wrapped but that will only help so much. I’m thinking I need to switch to a shorty header to solve both problems.

I had the hedman long tubes and hated them when I had to remove or install them, mostly on the driver side where the tube covers the flange bolts. I replaced them with the JBA shorties and lived happily ever after.

I have the 1653 model but if you have (or think you ever may have) a cable clutch you will want the 1655 model
