All gauges went dead on my 67 coupe

First time out this year, rotated the tires. I went for a road test it was all good, I thought it's nice day maybe I'll stay out  for a while. I looked at my gas gauge, it showed bone dry, I better head for the barn. Checking gauges, no oil pressure, no temp, no alt.  I'm thinking it could ,be the gauge voltage regulator, I did put a new one in, but that was over 25 years ago. With the key on or off no movement on any of the gauge needles. Am I looking looking in the right direction?  mustang stu

Re: All gauges went dead on my 67 coupe

Did you check the fuses?

Rudi   Yes I did, the owners manual  shows there is a fuse for the instrument lights. All fuses are good, all fused systems seem to be working. I had gauges working when I started driving, all of a sudden I didn't.     mustang stu

Check grounds.
On these old car’s faulty grounds are very common

Re: All gauges went dead on my 67 coupe

Alternator gauge is powered separately from oil, gas, temp. Most alt gauges don’t register anyway, though.

Pull the cluster and check for power into and out of CVU, plus ground wire continuity.

Re: All gauges went dead on my 67 coupe

Thanks for the info MS, you are 100% right on alt gauge. I guess I'll put the cluster out tomorrow, check the ground, see if I have power going into the regulator.   mustang stu

Re: All gauges went dead on my 67 coupe

FYI
Power for the gauges is not fused and comes from the back of the ignition switch, wire # 297 (Black-Green).  The 297 wire is then spliced with #30 wire (also Black-Green) that goes to the CVU unit on the back of the gauge cluster.

Re: All gauges went dead on my 67 coupe

Latest update I pulled the cluster out, the ground looked clean. I checked the regulator, there is voltage going in, but nothing coming out on the other end. I did put a new regulator in when I restored the car, but the cars been on the road 26  years, how time flies. Thank to MS and all the other replies. mustang stu
