Nah, that thing needs headers feeding into twin turbos and a blow through setup for the carbs!

I saw it. You win some, you lose some. Sometimes big purchases are a bit of a gamble. It is going to go up? Is it going to go down?
I still give KM huge props for sending me out a replacement so quickly, and taking care of the shipping. What are Summits current shipping and defective item policies?

Summit is about the best you could get on taking care of customers. And shipping is free over $100
I think ALL vendors selling Scott Drake stuff have same sale going on

I've bought from Summit for decades and I fully back up what MS says. I even check them for replacement stuff sometimes. I was able to get a radiator for my truck from them and there was no shipping cost, even though it was big, and even though it was being drop shipped. It saved $100 over Rock Auto for the exact same part. I've never had an issue with anything which needed to be returned or replaced either.

I've never had a problem with Summit either. Not that it's really ever been my go to place, but I've ordered from them. I have had problems with both Rock Auto, (folded head gasket and once got an empty box that was supposed to have brake rotors inside) and CJ Pony, (defective Scott Drake part) but in the end they've always made the problem right.
Overall, I've been pretty lucky with online vendors.

At least they folded it BETWEEN the cylinders!

I only ever had an issue with Rock Auto once, but it was a big issue. I ordered a complete set of power steering/hydroboost lines from them for my '06 F250. All Motorcraft lines. Before I had a chance to install those I ended up installing power steering lines on my '07 F250, which I also got from Rock Auto, also Motorcraft. In the process of bleeding the air out of the system I heard a bang and fluid started pouring out all over the ground. I traced it back to the pressure side fitting on the pump, where the hose had literally blown apart. Needing to get the truck back on the road I tracked down a dealership that had one locally, but when I called the parts guy said it wasn't for sale because it had been returned under warranty for the same issue the one I bought had had. I bought one from NAPA instead (Echlin brand I think), installed it and have had no issues. Within a month the return hose also started to leak, so I replaced it with a new hose from NAPA, and again no further issues. Obviously Motorcraft is making/buying defective hoses, so I reached out to Rock Auto about getting a refund for the hoses that had failed, and added that I was not going to install known failure prone hoses on my other truck and wanted a refund for those too. Back and forth via email, but what I got was that Motorcraft had a lifetime warranty, but that it only provided a replacement part, not a refund. I explained up and down that the parts were defective and I would not install them, so a replacement did nothing for me. Complete intransigence. I tracked down the owner of Rock Auto and sent him a letter. No response. So in the end I spent about $650 on parts I won't use, and that Rock Auto wouldn't make good on. To put this in perspective, I spend at least $3,000-$5,000 a year at Rock Auto, and have for 12 years. So understand this: they have great selection and prices, but they place zero value on you as a customer or their reputation. I have seriously curtailed what I buy from them since. Buyer beware.

I also have dealt with Summit for years and have been pleased with their service.
A couple of years ago, I purchased the MSD EFI system and had a lot of issues getting the car to run right. After many phone calls with Holley/MSD they recommended sending me a new system. However, the return time to Summit had significantly passed. Without any issues, Summit agreed, sent a new unit and I returned the one I had. (I’m not sure if this wasn’t the first unit sold that had trouble)
PS: the second unit worked as it should.

Reminds me of my Mallory unilite days. I had on my "college" days Mustang. My very first Mustang. I never was happy with that thing. Went through at least four modules. Sad thing is, it's sitting on a shelf downstairs.

Summit warrantied a Tilton hydraulic throw out bearing that was well beyond their return policy. Tilton doesn't warranty the part. Summit in Reno can sometimes give me next day delivery. They've got my business.

I sold my Unilite on Ebay last year for $150.00. It was in working order and probably over 30 years old
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
