Thermostat

I’m curious if we can get two or more people to agree on a thermostat brand.

I am starting to believe all are just repackaged china junk.

Just wanting a reliable 180 stat.

Stant appear to be MotoRad
Robert Shaw appear to be Mr Gasket

Re: Thermostat

I've always gone to Ford or my local parts dealer and asked for a 180* thermo.  Never had a problem.

Re: Thermostat

I worked in parts stores for many years, we always sold Stant Super Stats to people who wanted the best we had available.

Re: Thermostat

Aisin , made in Japan , not China.
They are an O/E parts manufacturer for many brands including Mopar,
Me, I buy Motorcraft and for all intents and purposes I believe are made by Ford in NA.

Re: Thermostat

I can't recall an issue with a thermostat, other than one or two that failed after a long time.  I usually stick with either OEM or Stant for replacements.

Re: Thermostat

I had one stick open at the most inopportune time on a cold November morning in the hills of West Virginia.
I put a sheet of cardboard in front of the rad to bring the temperature up for a bit of heat for the remainder of the trip back home to Canada.

Re: Thermostat

I have been buying the FAIL SAFE thermostats and not paying any attention to brand or country of origin. I figure everything is made in china anyway.
I get them through Summit or Autozone.
Unlike a normal tstat that fails closed, these fail in the open position. I have never had a failure. In fact, I think the only actual tstat failure I ever had was in a 70 Boss 302 back in 1978.  That was when I learned to pull the hose loose and stab a small screwdriver through the tstat to hold it open.

I had a stat fail on me on a 76 Granada 302. The spring broke and the stat wouldn't close, so the temp was always low.
