I want to add Rear Quarter Ornaments to my 66. Are there some that are better quality than others or are they all pretty much the same. Just don't want to buy some plastic junk. Also, any tips on install, there are no original holes. My buddy is going to install them and he did a very good job on my front fender emblems a few years ago. Still don't think it hurts to get others opinion. Thanks all!

What ornaments are on a ‘66 quarter panel?

OEM Ford are the only ones that fit right. I prefer GT style quarters with no fingers, but it is not my car!

Walt, when I bought my 65 in 1995, I really wanted a 66 for its ornaments and dash. At the time, unless it was 30yr old, there was an extra 55% import duty on a 66. Bought a 65.
Added the 66 ornaments, but removed the studs from the fingers and only used the rear mounts. It still sits flat today. Extra holes I didn't have'ta drill. I was gunna use body tape on the fingers if I hade to.
I'd trust NPD to tell me which was the best available.

Thanks guys!
Dan, I'm talking about the insert area behind the doors. Some cars have trim there, you probable got that by now.
Barry, thanks for the mounting idea. That will make it easier.
Steve, I just wanted a little bling there. The GT style may be the way to go.
Does anyone have a PIC with the GT style emblems so I can compare with standard emblems. That may be what I want.

I took my original ones off the last time I had it painted....
The painter said IF I should replace them to use tape and NOT drill holes because water' just sits' in the holes and you know what happens when water 'just sits' on arn....iron oxide develops ! ![]()
Mine were in pretty poor shape mainly because wind & road rash on the side of the car is pretty rough.
IF you tape them on (OR RTV) you can easily replace them when they get worn. (They are a bugger to get to to remove as you prolly know)

The GTs had no ornaments on the rear quarter sides. When the painter stripped mine he found the holes where the ornaments had been (they'd been filled with plastic filler). I decided I wanted to return to the stock look, shopped around and ended up following the NPD "best repro" recommendation and bought the Scott Drake ornaments. They look pretty good but they're not on the car yet so I have no idea how well they fit or how gracefully they'll age.
Here's a photo comparison. Sorry about the link but the photo "Upload" function failed to work.

It's a little hard to see the GT one but the more I look I think the fingers are a little to much.
Mike do you think alien tape will hold them on at 90 MPH on bumpy PA roads?

No, it won't make it to the bash this year. I'm having a buddy fix some paint and alignment issues that I could have done better. When he started on the Stang he wasn't working much. Right after he started the shop he works at got busy.

That's because there isn't anything there on the GT - the GTs did not have ornaments there. Maybe this photo will illustrate it better for you (although this isn't a GT, it shows what the body looks like without quarter ornaments ala GT) :-)

Maybe this will show it more clearly - no quarter panel ornament, just painted stamped steel quarter panel
or, thinking about your post a bit more, did you mean the GT badges on the front fenders?

John, I think MS referred to the GT style as just the chrome back part without the 3 fingers sticking out. I kinda like that, it adds something without being too much. If my browser would let me, I would post a link to one. I talked to my buddy he said some double-sided 3M tape would work fine for mounting.

All of the 66 mustangs, except for the GT (and the Shelby cars) had the 3-finger chrome ornament on the quarter panel. The GT mustangs, and the Shelby cars, had no ornament there at all.
Maybe you're thinking of the ornament used on the 65 cars (except the GTs), which was a chrome piece that sort of looked like a scoop?

If memory serves me, I believe that both the 65-66 fastback models did not have those quarter panel ornaments. But they came with rocker panel shields that ran from front wheel opening to the rear wheel opening.

OK I'm a little slow but sooner or later I catch up. When MS said without fingers, I thought he meant what is shown as 65. Thats what I ordered. I'll see what I think how they look.

I was referring to the fact the GT did not have any ornamentation on the quarter panels. Like fastbacks, there was nothing but a beautifully sculpted inset into the quarter, providing a really clean look.

Yea I get that now, it took me awhile but after John's post I finally caught up!
