Wait.  I thought almost all of the Maverick 8" rear were 4 lug.   There were 5 lug Mavericks?

My understanding is they were all 5 lug, except 70-'72 cars that had the 200 or 170 I6.

If I remember correctly, when Mavericks came equiped with a V8, it came with 5-lug wheels, I do not know the year Ford started offering the V8, but it was not the first year Macericks were sold.

This can't be completely true. I'm telling you straight up I myself pulled an 8" center out of an axle with 4 lugs. It WAS the very reason I did not buy the whole axle as it was a "same price" guy. He had already pulled the rear out and it was sitting on the ground. I once had pictures, I even posted some of them here. And I am positive it was an 8" the center is sitting. on my shelf all wrapped up. I am versed in the 7 1/4" Salisbury rears. I had several I'm my Falcons and Mustangs. Parts are hard to comeby for them. Point being I did not see the Maverick hulk, but there was 8" rears with four lugs for certain.

Anything is possible, and information on the internet can be inaccurate.  However, the information came from a specialty forum for Maverick people.  It would be the same if someone got Mustang information here.  I can't say none of us NEVER post inaccurate information, but its pretty rare, and its unlikely that 3 or 4 of us post the same inaccurate information.  Obviously no one would confuse a 7-1/4 with an 8"; they are totally different designs.  However, consider that you didn't ever see the rear in the car it allegedly came from, and even if you had that still wouldn't prove anything.  I've seen a dozen vehicles in a wrecking yard that had parts in them they never left the factory with.  People do all kinds of things to keep vehicles on the road, or in their quest for performance before a wreck, etc. relegates a car to the bone yard.  If it were me I would just look for 8" 5 lug Maverick rears and the rest should sort itself out.  Maybe there were some V8 Mavericks that had 4 lug rears (not like its something Ford never did, Fox Mustangs come to mind), or maybe there were some 6 cylinder cars that had 8" 4 lug rears.  Maybe these were oddball option packages that were overlooked by a broad general statement.  I would specify what I needed as opposed to trying to narrow a year range and option combination for a particular vehicle.  Anyone selling a rear should know if its 4 or 5 lug and whether its an 8" or 7-1/4", and what car it came from (and if you doubt that get a measurement).
