Clutch Fan

Jieve's radiator question got me thinking about radiators and fans.
I'm currently running a metal fan with clutch (I can't remember if it's 5 or 6 blade).

In the Fox-body world I've heard people speak highly of these plastic clutch fans... supposedly they rob less power and allow the engine to rev quicker since they are lighter, while maintaining the simplicity of a mechanical fan.

...but they are for a reverse rotation water pump.  Has anyone ever tried to just flip the fan part around and bolt it to the clutch to reverse it?  If that worked you could paint it black and probably most folks would never even notice it.

I guess the reason the idea is compelling to me is that I put a 351W in my '91 F-150 (built similarly to a 1st Gen Lightning engine) and went to an electric fan and I like how quick it revs without the mechanical fan, but I want to keep a mechanical fan on the 289 in my '67 Mustang due to simplicity and less electrical load.  I don't want to have to go down the rabbit hole of higher amp alternators.

Re: Clutch Fan

If you flip it, it'll still be a reverse rotation fan and it'll still blow the wrong direction.  And, it'll probably be into the radiator.

Went to an electric fan over a decade ago and have zero regrets.

Re: Clutch Fan

Those Foxbody plastic fans are notorious for cracking and breaking as the plastic ages, usually launching some fragment through the radiator. Fox forums discuss the failures.
