Re: Bullet Bob Evans Tribute

I never watch those F&F movies because the hero car is always some ricer and they always destroy Mustangs. JMHO.

Re: Bullet Bob Evans Tribute

Better or worse that they destroyed Mustangs, Chargers, etc. in Gone in 60 Seconds, Bullitt, The Dukes or Hazard, etc.?  Hopefully today the cars they wreck are reproductions built using new bodies and not classics, or they just do everything CGI, which is cheesy, but better than wrecking actual classics.

The hero cars are still usually something cool, and at times cars that were never imported into the US (R32, R33, and R34 Nissan Skylines have made appearances).  Fast cars are fast cars.  Cool cars are cool cars.  Practical stunts and accurate car knowledge means a lot more to me that what the cars are.  FF movies are hit or miss in those regards, but Hollywood don't make movies for guys like us unfortunately.

Re: Bullet Bob Evans Tribute

Very sad, Bob was a wealth of knowledge, he will be missed, my condolences to the family.

Thank you rpm and BroPaul for posting these tributes.  Although I didn’t meet BB, we did share a few communications and, as others have stated, he was always ready to help and assist.  He will be missed.

Re: Bullet Bob Evans Tribute

Hi, this is Renee, Bob and Jean's daughter.
While we're not having a funeral, we are planning a Celebration of Life, probably   here in Montrose, probably in April.
We will let you know as soon as we have the details.
If you have photos, videos, etc. of dad that you'd like to share, please email:

Just as a prompt, if Bullet ever made you anything for your car, I'd strongly encourage you to memorialize it here and send to Renee.

All I had to do was mention that my TFI coil needed 12v and that I was going to bypass the pink wire and Bullet was on full go. He asked how I was planning to do that and as usual I had no idea. He had a (much better) idea and in his mind, the plan was already hatched.
Before I could turn around twice a box had arrived. It contained a relay, a fuse block, a 20A fuse and pigtailed wiring with factory looking crimps. And of course a Bullet original wiring diagram with comments, cautions and clear labels, wire gauge callouts, the whole shebang.
I was so jacked up I installed it that day and sent Bullet phone vidya of the car starting and running. We had a bunch of conversations around that project, relays, getting good ones, not Chineesium ones, the crimpers, the wire ends. I went down that rabbit hole and discovered that without knowing exactly which crimpers Bullet had and which ends he bought, going to the site where he bought them was pointless. A gajillion options, most of which a noob like myself had no way of discerning what was appropriate.
Just a super helpful, incredibly awesome person who couldn't wait to share his wisdom in a direct but humble way. I'm proud to say that my fastback is Bullet Bob Evans equipped.

Re: Bullet Bob Evans Tribute

Gentlemen,

Today we laid Robert M. Evans, aka "Bullet Bob", to rest at Grandview Cemetery,  on Sunset Mesa here in Montrose, with a view of the San Juan Mountains.
Dad was cremated, his remains are in a brushed stainless urn, which is in a vault.
I spoke at this private service, about him, his family, and, of course, his extended family, which is all of you.
My mom, Jean, my sister, Renee, my brother-in-law and best friend of over 40 years, Shawn, Dad's grandkids (Renee's kids), and a few close local friends were in attendance.
I'm sure many of you will want to come out here for a remebrance/celebration soon; we are still aiming for early April.  We will be in touch about that and things in his shop, the inventory of which begins tomorrow (and what fun THAT will be 🤪).
Take care, talk to you soon.
-Michael

Re: Bullet Bob Evans Tribute

I still cannot believe Bullet is gone.
We had so many conversations about tech stuff and how something should or should not be done. He had more history than anyone I ever met. And the fact that he was still going strong and learning and trying new things at 80 is definitely an inspiration.
His Mustang belongs in a museum as a showing of what can be done to an old car as far as adding advanced technology, and done with such high quality standards.
Bullet and I have exchanged parts for Garage Points many times. He donated a box of 289 main caps that I needed to build a crankshaft display. My biggest thing he donated is the roller cam for my 331 in my convertible. He had the cam custom ground from a 5.0 HO original billet and had it in Jean’s 66 (wink wink, Jean) when he was having some engine issues and thought it might have been the cam grind. Well, he pulled it and installed another cam only to have same issue.  I’m not sure of the final cure, but I now have that custom ground cam, free of charge, of course.  I have not installed the engine yet, but I will surely think of Bullet every time the three deuces and that camshaft sing in harmony. I planned to keep the vert forever, but now I have a really good reason to do so.

In referring to Jean’s 66, Bullet has special gauge faces made for the car, and as I recall, they all said JEAN’s Mustang or something to that effect. How many guys dedicate their car to their wife.  He loved her so much.

I will see all of you in Montrose in April.
RIP, Bullet Bob

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

MS, I still struggle with losing Josh!   At least now the 2 of them are together, that along with My Father in law Joe.  And Tanya has her hands full keeping that bunch in line!!

Re: Bullet Bob Evans Tribute

I haven't been active for quite some time.  I Still l love the ride, I still love to drive.  I saw the name 'Bullet Bob' and I thought to myself was that the guy that responded to a lot of my post??  Sure enough, a complete stranger with nothing but a shared love for cars and wanting to help had provided lots of feedback over the years.  I didn't know him personally but it's an amazing the impact someone can have just through text on a screen.

1) Thank you to Mr. Bullet Bob and all folks like him.  The world needs more people like him.
2) I'm going to make it a point to log on at least weekly to give feedback and help others.  I've failed to pay it forward in the last couple of years of all the advice and help I was given.  I'll be rectifying that starting today.

Tom, you would have loved hanging out with Bullet, and he spoke highly of you. I only knew Bullet ten years, and he had a huge impact on me.

Amen. I first met Bullet at the MS Bash at Steve's in TX. I took an instant liking to him; had the good fortune to sit next to him at breakfast. I was a Pete & Jake's fan and had a project 34 coupe back in the 70's/80's. At that breakfast I interviewed Bullet and he told me all the best stories, the Kong stories, the Jitney Jake stories, the Speedster - I wish I had recorded them. Then at the Bakersfield Bash we hung out a fair bit - I sat across from him (and Roy) at one of the dinners and we spoke at great length. After the Bako Bash we became phone buddies and text buddies. He offered to and then made me some absolutely stunning billet quarter panel vent grilles. Pieces of art really. Over 1,000 passes on his DRO mill and he broke a few small end mills. I replaced those and was grateful beyond description. Over the moon.

One of a kind. Irreplaceable.

Definitely irreplaceable Paul ... and humble.
I don't know how many people know that he was also a a wizard with a sewing machine.
He designed and made a range of concealed carry fanny packs, that were better than anything I've seen commercially available.
Definitely a unique guy ... and a great friend that I miss badly.
