What year convertible seats would be good doner seats? TMI prices are hard to take.

Be that as it may I have a set in my '67 and love them. Consider what you'll really have in it by the time you buy used seats, and do what will have to be done to install and integrate them into the interior.

Steve, I have 96 seats in my 68. They came out of a coupe, and they're black. I used my 68 seat tracks. Much more comfortable than the 68 seats.

I test tried 1998 Cobra Mustang seats too wide and too high I was using the 68 seat rails. The 98 were much too high. That is why I am hoping a some what newer Mustang convertible seat would work. TMI only option??

Steve, fox body seats look like they fit well.
I also like like the look and fit of the procar elite, some bigger people, seem to struggle with them.
I test fitted the seats from my donor 95 convertible, and like you, found them too high.
I'm gunna try a reduced diameter steering wheel.
TMI seats, and foam, seem to be on the high side

Fox era GT seats were always comfortable and supportive. The downside is that they were also always cloth, which is out of place in a classic Mustang were everything is vinyl. The color pallet is also decidedly limited. I'm betting most of us have black interiors and black Fox body seats are about impossible to come by. Now, you can get new black upholstery, etc., but then we go down the rabbit hole where the ultimate cost ends up being more than just buying the TMI seats that fit and look tight. I ran through this before settling on the TMI seats. For me cost wasn't as big an issue as how the seats looked. TMI was the only option where the pleating was horizontal like the back seat and door panels in my '67, so that was a big part of it for me. However, the cost to use other seats and modify then to look right would have ended up costing more.

Perhaps this may help.

I used foxbody and recovered them. Reused the tracks. I am 6'2 and don't have any trouble in and out, (other than old age)

I have Fiero seats in my 65 and recovered them to match the interior. I know, but honestly they look great. Almost a direct bolt-in and just had to modify the frames a bit. If you're interested I'll post a pic or two.

I'd be interested in seeing photos, and details of what needed to be done to fit these seats.

Attached (I think) are some pics of my seats. As I remember, the width was fine and I extended the front bracket feet so match the 65 Mustang holes. I got the seat covers from Mr. Mikes: Then I built the seat delete and covered it to match the seats. I got a couple of palomino door cards and then dyed them to match.

The newer Mustangs have taller bases under them. I had a set of 2017 seats and sold them because it just wasn’t going to work.

I wish you luck in your search. When I was looking for Fiero seats I found the same results as with Recaros out of the 325 BMW, on the rare occasion I found a set, they were far away and were ridiculously priced.
