Hi Everyone, it has been quite a while since Ive been here, Life got in the way but the car has also been fantastic, until 3 days ago.....
As the Subject suggests, I have 1968 FB with Nicely Modified but nothing radical 302 Using a TOPLOADER Bellhousing with a T5 using the Z-BAR pedal config.
The other Day I could not get out of first. Once the car was off I was able to do so, go into every gear just fine, but if the car is on I can not; I can SEE and FEEL the Diaphragm Working along with the FORK and ZBar system, just not able to drive. that being said the Pedal does feel a little different than before.
The Car Maybe has 350hp (best guess) so I say between 300-350 tops.
Im convinced my PILOT BEARING seized, but seeing as Im forced to remove everything anyway, I'd like to swap the Clutch.
During these Tough and Pathetic Canadian Times, im looking for a best bang for your buck Clutch and Flywheel, vs. top quality race stuff. The Car aside from Engine and Trans swap is Very Stock, it drives very nice and smooth just has some Attitude, its not a "Fast" Car, so marrying a decent street clutch is all Im looking for......
im pretty sure it has a Stock Clutch as we speak with a 3 prong Diaphragm and I had ZERO issues driving with that for 5yrs!
So thoughts/Input on:
Clutch
Flywheel
Throwout Bearing and
PILOT BEARING????

I installed a clutch& diaphragm pressure plate from NAPA(stock) so long ago I can't remember the man. Point being...sounds like what you used 5+ years ago !!
I vote...GET ANOTHER ONE JUST LIKE IT !
'Maybe' get the flywheel resurfaced if it looks scuffed/burned...
OR just because it's good shop practice.
I think the solid bronze pilot bearings are 'near bullet-proof' so why switch to roller !?
If you ain't rac'in and squeezing 400+ HP outta the engine/running it thru a trac-loc with big gearz and even BIGGER rear tires the above suggestions should work just fine...(Butt-watta-eye-no !?)

Every time I've had an issue with a pilot bearing or bushing its made noise. What you are describing sounds like the clutch failed to disengage, which the pilot bearing would have little to nothing to do with.
The clutch is either a diaphragm of a 3 finger. If its a 3 finger I believe that's called a Borg & Beck. Diaphragm clutches have a bunch of fingers that the TO bearing presses against. I've head of 3 finger clutches breaking a single lever or spring and not allowing the clutch to disengage.
Personally, I would use a diaphragm style clutch. ProMotion Performance is a great place to get clutches, Very reasonable. Here's their website, but I would just call them:

Are you sure that the clutch is properly adjusted so that it fully disengages? An easy test is to put the transmission in 1st gear (engine off), push the clutch pedal down all the way and push the car . If it won't move, you need to adjust your clutch mechanism.
If that's too complicated or you only have yourself, put it in 1st gear with the engine off, push the clutch pedal in all the way and bump the starter. If the car moves, your clutch mechanism needs adjustment

I suggest checking both arms on the Z-Bar, one may have started to separate from the crossbar. Back in the day, when using a heavy clutch, it was not unusual for these to crack at the weld as the stress from the heavy clutch was too much. Your issue may be age related.
From my time, the 3-finger pressure plate was called a “Long” style, the diaphragm style was a “Borg & Beck” style.

Hi All, ty for the responses!
TKO solid point, there is no rattles, clacking or vibration in Neutral, I never thought of a Finger Breaking, but I really do not like style of diaphragm. Can't wait to swap it out.
To answer other questions and comments, the car has driven perfectly for 5yrs, I stayed in 1st a little too long and leaned a little too hard and it got stuck from that point and hasn't worked since....it's presenting like the Pressure Plate or the Pilot as of now.
As for the Fork, I have considered this and likely going to change it again anyhow, so yes possibly the fork bent, just not sure how during a 1st - already in gear acceleration

Also, just want to Verify cause I can't gather any information on this engine; the builder is on vacation and the previous owner is out of town for a week 🤦🏻♂️. You tell me what are the chances of that!
Can anyone say with a decent level of confidence what the balance of the Crank is from this photo?

Long, Borg & Beck and Diaphragm are 3 separate and different styles of pressure plates.
Your 3 bolt balancer indicates that you have a pre-1970 crankshaft which would be 28 oz imbalance but nothing is guaranteed.

You can't tell from the number of bolts holding the pulley on the balancer what balance the engine has. You can put a 3 bolt balancer on a 50oz imbalance crank and vice versa. The balancer on my 289 is actually drilled for both patterns. I used the 3 bolt pattern with the factory accessory drives and went to a 4 bolt under drive pulley when I converted to the Fox accessory drive. The crank snout diameter and keyway are the same size. This is how people end up with an out of balance engine, because the balancers are interchangeable. Don't get me started on timing marks either.

The engine’s casting number and date code can be found on the starter side of block. You may have to remove the starter to see them. The casting number only indicates that it wasn’t made before that year. The engine’s date code typically is a short time prior to the car’s “build’ date as found on the data plate that is on the driver’s door jam.
Details reading these numbers is just a Google search away.

If your pressure plate isn't fully disengaging, it will be difficult to shift while the car is moving and very difficult to shift into any gear while the car is at rest with the engine running. A mal-adjusted or bent linkage (as BobE suggested), or a deformed clutch fork would cause the clutch to not fully disengage. It's also possible that something inside the transmission failed - which can happen if you slam it hard into a gear and don't have travel stops on your shifter.

Just for S & G's.......how are your motor mounts?! How old...? What do they look like...? Any cracks..?
The reason I axe is....FOR YEARS I was having "issues" with clutch/Z-bar/etc.
After "extra springs"...grease...heim joints.. I replaced BOTH motor mounts (really wasn't that difficult) and "issues" are
a-thing-of-the-past.
Might be worth a look !!

This will tell you what balance the engine should have, but beware that this could have been changed by a previous engine builder.

IME, if you bent or broke something in the transmission it would be stuck in one gear. This is what happens when you break or bend a fork (usually they break). The broken fork is unable to pull the slider back off the speed gear to which its engaged because the fork is broken. This leaves you stuck in that gear. If you are able to shift into all the gears under any circumstance then its unlikely the transmission is damaged internally.
This issue really sounds like a failure of the clutch to disengage. There could be several causes of that.

Yep. I had an issue that I would have sworn was the clutch slipping that turned out to be a bad motor mount.
