If you would like to travel more mountains and East TN countryside, look on the map at:
Plot a route to Clemson of your choice
Get on Hwy 28 and drive it north to the very end.  It will end in NC on Hwy 129 (basically at the start of the Tail of the Dragon).
Look on the map south down Hwy 129 and you will see Hwy 143 headed West (this is called the Cherohala Skyway)  (143 changes number to 165 when you cross into TN)
TN-165 west will take you to a town called Tellico Plains TN.
In Tellico Plains, TN, on the map you will see TN-39 headed West to a town called Athens, TN.
In Athens, TN you would get on TN-30 continuing West all the way to almost McMinnville, TN.
Near McMinnville, TN you will see Hwy 70S that goes West all the way to Murfreesboro, TN.
Here on the map you will see TN-96 that will take you into Franklin, TN.

This is not an actual route you could follow but rather enough details to enable you to basically follow a mountain/countryside route to Franklin, TN on a map.  Give it look on a map on a big screen like a computer monitor instead of a phone screen.  This would not be a fast route at all but it would take you through some beautiful scenery that is drastically different than the Southern route you have in mind.

If you know about the Tail of the Dragon and you want to drive it, I´d recommend you drive it and return back on it to NC then go down to the Cherohala Skyway only because of the rest of the route from there to Franklin, TN.

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

Sounds like that would be a fun route for sure.
