Borgeson in 65 Mustang w/Shelby quick steer kit

I put a new Borgeson power steering box in the 65 convertible along with the Shelby quick steer idler and pitman arm. The steering wheel now has 3.1 turns lock to lock.  This should work out nicely.  My 66, with the Total Control power rack, is three turns lock to lock.
I like the simpler hardware of the Borgeson box vs the Rack & Pinion. And $600 plus $200 for the Shelby kit is much cheaper than $3,200 for the rack.
I have installed several of the Borgeson kits and they work very well.

Re: Borgeson in 65 Mustang w/Shelby quick steer kit

I'd be curious about the turning circle between the two.  A common detraction levied at the rack and pinion kits is that the turning circle is larger than stock.  Turns to lock is a point of comparison, but IMO doesn't necessarily tell the whole story if all other things are not equal.

Re: Borgeson in 65 Mustang w/Shelby quick steer kit

Initially, I installed the Steeroids rack and pinion in the 66. The car felt like it was on rails, had no bumpsteer, and if I recall correctly, it was 2.7 or 3 turns lock to lock. The shortcoming of the r&p was the large turning radius, particularly in parking lots. The car is now on its second Borgeson box, which has a stock turning radius, but takes a lot of shuffling of the steering wheel due to the box ratio. The car should be on the road by this weekend and if I find the time, I might try MS's idea and install the Shelby quick steer components.

The 66 with rack does not turn as tight a radius. I have never measured the difference, but is not noticeable unless turning into a tight parking spot
