For those of you that have completed the explorer 8.8 upgrade to your early mustang.....anyone have photos of how they did the lower shock (oem stud) mounting using the explorer lower u-bolt plates?

Would it not be alot easier to just use the Mustang shock mount plates? You can weld up the holes and redrill for the larger axle diameter u-bolts.

I agree, that's what I did.

hmm.... I measured the original spring plates and find the distance between the u-bolt holes are 3.25"
the 8.8 u-bolts are 3.87".
And I dont seem to have enough material to the edge to fill and drill the old spring plates.
Any ideas?

What diameter is the 8.8" axle tube? You can pull the u-bolts inward a bit if the holes are not far enough apart, but you don't want to overdo it. I had to do that on my Versailles axle using 68 shock mounts/spring plates.

Some people have elongated the holes to fit with no adverse affects.
