brake bleeding

I got the booster and MC installed on my 65, modified the granada prop valve, plumbed in the adj prop valve to the rear, ran all new bake lines front to back, basically have all new system.  bench bled the MC.  The entire system other than the MC is air filled, what is the best way to approach bleeding the system?  Do I just start at the pass rear caliper and work my way forward?

Re: brake bleeding

Yes, start at right rear, then left rear, then right front and finally left front.
Make sure you add, as needed, fluid to the MC or you'll be back to square one.

Re: brake bleeding

Yes, Go from the passenger rear the drivers rear, passenger front and then drivers front, take your time, i was suprised at how much air came out of a new system. when its done right the brakes feel great.

Yeah, I know, but...

Re: brake bleeding

Gravity bleed first put a hose on the bleed screw and let gravity get most of the air out. saves you from wearing you're foot out trying to get fluid to the brakes at first.

Re: brake bleeding

This is usually the time when the brake warning light gets tripped --when bleeding out brakes and the imbalance of hydraulic pressure on the differential spool inside the brake valve shifts (most often to the rear brake circuit becuse it's the first circuit to begin bleeding out).

This simple device can save you a lot of frustration during this process;

Re: brake bleeding

Thanks guys.  I thought once everything was bled and pressure equalized with no leaks the valve would re center itself.

Re: brake bleeding

Apparently GM cars had springs that would re-center the piston/spool.  For Fords it is not as easy as once they are tripped, they will not re-center on their own without creative bleeding.  In this link Mach428 describes a procedure I have used  http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182/thread/1301100185/porportional+valve+69+mustang

The device Ultratang shows prevents the spool from moving and can save a lot of time and frustration.  Some here have made their own.
