What year engine?

I have an engine given to me by my youngest son.  Asked what year it was and he told me he didn't remember, but it came from T'Bird.  It's a 302 that has what looks like a EFi carb that has two jets.  I have a '82 lincoln that has a EFI carb that resembles this one closely.  The oil pan has a double sump with the sumps being on each end of the pan.  I have looked the block over and can find no numbers.  Can someone tell me what years this thing could possibly be, or where the block numbers are suppose to be on 302s?  Trying to find out if this could possibly be a roller engine before I tear it down.  If it's not a roller I don't to waste my time disassembling it.  Thanks, Jerry

Re: What year engine?

block numbers are usually located behind the starter.  Dumb!. Can't see them unless your remove the starter.  Probably anything made after 1985 is a roller cam motor. aka, 5.0.

Re: What year engine?

WIth it being throttle body EFI. and the fact that it has a fox style pan, I would bet that it is a later model (post 85) 5.0. Probably from a T-bird or Cougar. I doubt it is equipped with a roller cam, but the block should be machined and set up for it. Easiest way to tell is to pop off the valve cover and look down the oil return holes into the valley. If it has dog bones around the lifters and a spider retainer in the valley then it is a roller cam equipped 5.0. If it has flat machined surfaces around the lifters, but does not have dog bones and spider it is probably a later model motor machined to accept a roller cam.

Re: What year engine?

Think the starter is still there.  I'll pull it and get the numbers.  Thanks guys, Jerry

Re: What year engine?

I have an 87 302 roller and the casting numbers are on the side opposite the starter
