Wanting to install a new head gasket on a 250 inline 6. Will the Felpro brand work as is?
A quick search on the web....and it appears that it will......but might be a little thicker than an old OE. One. So it might not crush down to the same thickness. Which I think is pretty important that it be the correct thickness. Anyway I am new on here....
Thanks

Welcome to the" gang"!
FelPro's the best in my book.
As you know...the new gasket will squash down pretty good.
Is there by chance a choice of thickness's?
Did you have the head milled/trued? Some times that's the smart thing to do to get any "waves" or humps out of the head.
I'd check the deck for trueness also. I hate having to "go-back-and-redo-an-aggrevating-job"
. You use any gasket shellac on the surfaces? Some guys do....
You could alway call FelPro and see what they say.

Thanks 6sally6. To be honest I was hoping to not have to take the head in some where. Lol its still on the running car. So I guess I need to pull it and examine it.Perhaps if I can get someone around Dallas to check and mill it I would be a head. Thanks for the help.

Oh yeah to answer your question. ..is thier a choice in thickness? Not really....but thier is a distinct difference in the amount of crush between different gaskets based on what its made of and who the manufacturer is. Something like that from what I have read....according to the few 250 gasket products I have seen in the description of said gaskets. They clearly had it marked for its crushed thickness and that number differs between vendors.

Welcome to the forum.
Measure the old one when you pull it out. You can mic the thickness of the ring around the cylinder area.
I would not imagine a few thou' either way would make any difference. The lifters are compressed about 0.060" and there is alot of tolerance. Don't overthink it.

Thanks MSteve The problem maybe my over thinking it. Lol thanks for the measurement information. I wasn't sure how much one way or the other was going to matter.! Its all good. Thanks again.

Is old the gasket blown? Usally ya need a good reason to want to replace a head gasket. Just asking.

Well its blowing water out from the front cylinder area which appears to be working its way back. Any green flowing out can't be good. But at least it got caught before its got bad. Lol I today I got the gasket and couple other gaskets to complete the job. All I need to know now is what is the torque specs for tightening the head down on this 250 motor? Thanks

Well, that was a nice looking torque spec chart when I posted it... Check out inlinesix.com website for the chart.
