Hi Everyone,
i have a question i have a 1968 Mustang 6 cyl.
and I have put a 351W in, Are the spindles from a 6 cyl different then a V8?
Also what else do I need to replace as far as suspension?
Steering rods? .. .how about the lower arms and upper arms? (they seem to be the same size)
thanks

The 6 cyl spindles are weaker and should be replaced with V8 spindles, along with ALL the steering linkage. The upper and lower A arms are the same, but all the steering pieces must be changed. The steering boxes are the same for both 6 and 8.

Actually, Hornman is describing 65/66 spindles.
In 67 and later Mustangs, the I-6 and V8 spindles are the same part if the car has drum brakes. Only the hubs are different, with V8 hubs having five lugs.
On your 68 suspension and steering linkage up front, all other parts are the same for I-6 and V8 except the springs. If you install a small block, you can get away with using the I-6 springs, but with the 351W, I would suggest an upgrade to V8 springs.

While there were significant differences in the 65 and 66 6's and 8's, from a few sites, it appears that the spindles and other components are the same on 67 and up so the conversion is much easier. Upgrading the brakes to match your motor front and rear would be high on my list. This is one site I found regarding swaps that addresses the spindles, tie rods, center links, etc.

Excellent. Thanks for the info and the website. I do definetly want to do a Disk/Power Brake conversion.
So from what I am hearing, is that the 68's In-line6 and V8's have the same suspension and steering except for the SPRINGS?
The steering and suspension seems to be ok (just needs to be redone with new bushings and rubbers), but I think it would be cheaper to buy the rubbers/bushings ETC, then to buy the suspension and steering Kits.
I know I want to replace the Shock absorbers, so when I do that i'll replace the Spring Coils too.
Thanks guys!
