Thank you to whoever posted about the Borg coupling jam nut loosening

I got arount to installing the steering collumn in 66 coupe tonite while swatching Dale Jr win the 500!!!
Also got the front coil springs in on top of the Daxze styled LCA roller perches I built. I fremembered reading someones post here a month or so back about their steering coupling coming loose off a borg  power steering box . I predrilled the splines to give the set screw someplace to seat and used lock tite. Anyway, just wanted to thank whoever posted that. You would think they (Borg) would sell a coupling with a through-bolt insteda of a set screw on that?

Re: Thank you to whoever posted about the Borg coupling jam nut loosening

Well I just finished Borg. P/S this weekend on the 66 Coupe. I went one step further with the steering column. I put in MS bearing kit in column, using the supplied bearing stop on the inside of the column and then machining a slot on the outside of column for E clip, then attaching bearing assembly to the column. So once column is attached, the steering shaft can't be pulled out on less e clip is removed. I also did drill  into P/S gear box shaft to give set screws a little more grip. To finish off the job had to install Glenns adjustable struts to get my caster to plus 4 degrees. All thats left to do is cut down the steering wheel diameter a couple of inches. I want to keep stock wheel look. Even though theres a foot of snow on the ground took it out Sat morning to road test my alignment. Seams like I now have a new car to enjoy.

Well, I am glad you read the post. I still believe in the steering solution, but it is a little hokey not to have a roll pin in there..

Re: Thank you to whoever posted about the Borg coupling jam nut loosening

Yeah, I like Steve's column bearing on our 66 with borgeson. I was hoping to install it with the locking spacer thingie on the outside bottom of the shaft like the picture on the website, which would prevent the shaft from pulling out of the rag joint, but when I set it up that way it spaced me too far off the rag joint and not all of the steering column tube came through the firewall. So, it turned out to be not useful. The bearing is on and does its thing, but it doesn't prevent the shaft from pulling out.

I  like your e-clip idea, but I don't have the setup to machine that.

If I was ordering again, I would order it with the bearing installed inside the column, the other configuration he offered, so I could put that spacer thingy on  the end.
