    Advantages of the new format over the old:

    1.  Cleaner, easier to follow format
    2.  Avatars
    3.  The ability to quote so you can specifically repost what you are responding to.
    4.  Easier picture posting, you can upload direct without having to go to an outside source for pic hosting
    5.  Ability to change font color, for a more personalized post
    6.  Post enhancing extras such as pix, links, text format and smilies are buttoned and easier to use than on the old format
    7.  Forum sectioning.  you can section out the forum all from the same page with out having to set up a separate forum.  
    8.  Pinning topics.  If there is a post that is of particular importance it can be pinned to the top so that it is easy to find and easy for other to read and respond to.
    10.  higher google and yahoo visibility.  The way the new format is coded it hits better on search engines.
    11.  THREAD SUBSCRIPTION  This is the big one.  Under the old format you only get an email if some one responds directly to your post, but not to a response to some one else's post in the same thread.  I know I have missed replies because of that, BUT with the new format you can subscribe to the thread so any time some one posts you will get an email.  Even people not posting on the thread can subscribe to the thread and as the thread progresses they will get notification making the thread easier for them to follow.

    And I am starting to think that this is a joke...

    The possibility to add an avatar doesn't exist as far as I can see from checking "My Profile" and I can now only have a single line signature?

    Another strange thing I noticed is that only when you edit a post you will get a "Inset YouTube Video" button in the menu of the message editor.

    If this ain't a joke after all some fine tuning seems to be needed!

    Both of those things were available when I set up the forum for Steve, but when I "gave hime the keys" he decided to eliminate those features, and repaint.  His forum his rules  


    As to the picture posting option it should work after you have made several posts.

    Be assured, some fine tuning WILL take place.  The reason to make just one line for tagline is to make more posts visible at one time.  It can be added back if needed.  Avatar went away as an experiment to see if it would keep out some really large pictures that were added.  Again, subject to change.

    There is definutly going to be some growing pains and changes as all this gets figured out, but even if it stays just the way it is right now I think the end result is an improvement over the old setup.

    Was a post count next to the user who psoetd in each thread in the version you gave MS?  It is kept in the user list and, while not of much use at this early stage, as more posts happen,it could be. I have found it useful on other forums.

    Is there a way to add an avatar without having to have it hosted online somewhere?  I know you can do this when posting a pic in a forum message... how about for an avatar?

    The short answer is no, BUT the long answer is you can use the forum to host the avatar in other words cheat.  Take your avatar pic and go through the process of adding it to a post.  Once you can see it in your dialog box click the "source" button above the dialog box and the pic will go away and code will be left.  copy the code starting with "http" all the way through and ending with ".jpg"  you will be leaving behind some bracketed stuff on either end.  Now paste the jpg address in the avatar option , follow the dorections, and you should be good to go.  Let me know if I can help further.

    When adding a picture to your dialogue box for the purpose of using it for an avatar, should you use the resize function and declare it 'Avatar'?  Or will adding it to the Avatar setup function resize it automatically?

    It has to be be avatar sized or you will not be aloud to upload it.

    Nope the history of the old forum is still there, and searchable.  If you click on "index" one of the forum options is "Original FYI Ford forum"  which will take you to the old forum so you can read all that is there.

    Sal,
    save the cheap sunglasses pic to say, your desktop.
    click on the my option tab
    click on avatar then, delete the one you're using now and add the new pic that you saved to your desktop.......it'll tell you what size to make it...load it and enjoy
