Hello Everyone, I am new to the forum and am excited to join. I would like to know if anyone has ever installed a late modle rear end (1995 GT) into an earlier modle (1965-1666) Mustang? I will be installing or attempting to install the complete drive train from balance to rear end if possible. Any information will be greatle appreciated. Detailed specs below.

8.8 Rearend with disc brskes and 3.73 gears

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Rear End Question

Welcome to the forum.  There are several that have installed the later model 8.8 rear ends, but usually from an Explorer.  Check the old forum and do a search on Explorer rear end install or something similar and you will probably find some stuff.  I remember one very good article about narrowing the rear end to fit.

Be sure to check out the BASH information.  Hope you can make it.

Re: Rear End Question

Yes Welcome to the forum!!
The Newer Mustang rears, from fox on, will fir intothe 67-70 Mustangs after removing the existing mount brackets and installing new spring perches and setting pinion angle.
The gist of using an Exploder rear in a 65-66 is removing existing brackets, and modify the rear by removing the long side axle and relocate another short side axle there. You use two short Exploder axles.
As MS said there have been several compleat articles doccumenting the process.
And I'm starting one myself.

Re: Rear End Question

Thanks for the info Tubo. I think I'm going to sell the 8.8 and save up for a 9 inch.

There ya go, Josh.  Jwmstang says he has a 95 Mustang disc 8.8 with 3.73 gears...prolly an LS too.

He's gonna sell it and you said you were looking for another Exploder rear...this should be nearly the same and he ain't that far from you in Texas miles.

Re: Rear End Question

Yeah Butt.
The 95 Mustang is 28 splined, where as the Exploder is 32 spline.

Re: Rear End Question

This  is what you need. A full floater kit from Schriener can make your 8.8 any width. The axles are available in 1/2 inch increments so with a spreader bolt you can make any width. The Wilwood caliper you see here is the GM D52 style for race applications, but a simple bracket can mount any caliper. This unit is 31 spline which is good for my road race application. You have two big tapered roller bearings at each wheel so now the axle shaft doesnot support the weight of the car. No "c" clips either, so now I can change a rear gear in less than an hour since I do not have to remove the brakes and all.
