9" Traction-lok differential cover replacement

Does anyone know if the aftermarket offers a replacement for the weak '69 nine inch traction-lok differential cover (clutch side)?  I've searched the internet, but I'm not coming up with anything myself.

Re: 9" Traction-lok differential cover replacement

I have not run across any, most people just go to a detroit locker or other aftermarket unit to upgrade. I suppose you could make one out of billet material and a few hours on a lathe and mill. There may be a truck unit though that may fit that is beefier.

These are easy to find in the right places. Relatively inexpensive aftermarket reproduction Trac lock units are all over the place.  Even Ford Racing sells them.   They have billet steel "hats"   I just bought one myself.

Re: 9" Traction-lok differential cover replacement

Most get broken when pressing on the bearing.  Be sure to use a backup right behind what you are pressing against and don't let the whole part take the poad.

Re: 9" Traction-lok differential cover replacement

1969 was the first year for the Ford Traction-Loc differential. 1969 is also the worst version of this differential because of the (4) large holes in the drivers side half of the differential. In 1970 the cover was cast without the holes. Any Ford Traction-Loc differential from 1970-1985 will be the revised version, absent of the holes.

Re: 9" Traction-lok differential cover replacement

Here's a pic of where to look when inspecting for a cracked case.  The cracks were present on several of the bolt hole pockets.  I also stumbled upon another option for replacing the entire case...http://www.currieenterprises.com/cestore/Product596.aspx?id=1764
