Adjustable low fuel light with 5 volt adjustable power supply

Low Fuel circuit board with LED $30 + Shipping. (Shipping was in the $2.50 to $3.50 range a little more if want tracking added, please let me know) The LED must be mounted by the purchaser, the gauge is not included. Keep in mind mounting it inside the gauge, as shoun here, is a little tuchy. If you would like to mount the LED some where else besides the gauge cluster, say console, let me know the wire length you will need on the LED. *** PM me or wsinsle@yahoo.com***
Remember the low fuel light came be adjusted to come on at any level. Full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 tank or anywhere in between. The easiest way to set this up is to run enough gas out of your car until your gauge is at the level where you want the low fuel light to come on. Verify key is turned off before continuing. You will have to remove the gauge cluster and locate the constant voltage regulator (CVR) on the rear. Disconnect the two wires from the CVR, these are the + 12 volt and + 5 volt wires. Remove the CVR from the back of the gauge cluster. The low fuel circuit board (LFCB) can be mounted here. Use the screw holding the CVR to mount the LFCB. The Red and the Green wires should plug into the two wires you removed from the CVR. The yellow wire connects under the nut that on back of the fuel gauge. Remove the yellow-white from rear of fuel gauge. Place the yellow wire from the LFCB under the nut on back of fuel gauge. Keep the insulated barrier between the wire and metal gauge assemble. Replace yellow-white wire. If car is already equipted with low fuel indication find and connect the wires from the original low fuel light bulb to the 2 blue terminals screws on the LFCB. Wiring done. If not use supplied LED and mount where desire.     Now turn key on. (remember the easiest way to set this up is to run enough gas out of your car until your gauge is at the level where you want the low fuel light to come on) Adjust R2 until the LED on the circuit board just goes out. Adjust until it goes on then just goes out. Turning R2 CW will turn LED on CCW will turn LED off. This is a 25 turn pot, so it may take several turns. Once LED goes out and stays out for 35 seconds your low fuel light should come on.

Re: Adjustable low fuel light with 5 volt adjustable power supply

Walter, my 68 mustang has the original low fuel warning set up. My sender doesn't read correctly and they dont reproduce it. Do you think your unit will function to light up my original light in my system? then I can just use any sender that works.

Thanks Mark

Re: Adjustable low fuel light with 5 volt adjustable power supply

Yea Mark this was designed to put 12 volts across the blue terminal output when the low fuel level is turned on. That is what your dash bulb uses. Find the wires that go to your low fuel bulb and connect them to the blue terminals. You can use a standard sending unit in the tank with this. Follow the other instructions and it should work fine. When I use an LED with this circuit I solder a resister in series with the LED wires to drop the output voltage.

Re: Adjustable low fuel light with 5 volt adjustable power supply

Just keep in mind there has to be a working send unit for the to operate correctly. It doesn't have to be one made for a low fuel light, a standard 1 wire sending unit will work fine with this. But it does need a working sending unit.

Re: Adjustable low fuel light with 5 volt adjustable power supply

ok, I have a new one wire unit I never used or installed. I'll run the gas out and do  the sender and gauge cluster all together. I cant wait to have a gas gauge that works and have my low fuel warnign work also. It was either one or the other forever.  Thanks

Looks like a very quaility piece, and the price is right as well.
Thanks again for doing this Walter.
