    Rear valence tail pipe exit height

    Hey Guys/Gals...66 coupe, 2.5" dual exhaust, 302. Originally was gonna cut my own holes for tail pipe exit in rear valence...changed my mind and bought one with the exhaust holes already in it. Question I got is, can one or 2 of you that has this set up take a look back there on your 65/66 and tell me where the pipes are in relation to the rear leaf spring shackle bolt? Are the pipes centered on the bolt... or above it slightly, or below it? The exhaust came w the car as a kit that I built and installed...so the exit height in relation to the rear shackle bolt that I have may/probly isn't where it needs to be to fit the valence properly. Looks like the tops of the pipes should almost touch the lower edge of the rear trunk panel lower edge and be well above the spring perch bolt.Thanks

    With 2-1/2" pipes, I had to cut off the extra length on the shackle bolt for clearance.  The height is determined by the chrome trumpet exiting properly located within the chrome trim ring, not by some dimension.  If you drew a vertical line at the end of the chrome tips, the line intersects the bottom edge of the bumper.  Whether that is "original" or not, I do not know or care, but that is where mine are.

    Search previous posts, maybe even on the old forum, for process to remove louvers from original trumpets and make them 2-1/2" instead of 1-7/8" diameter.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

    Evidently my search terms Suck...as evidenced by how often I ask questions here. trim rings or Trumpets...hadn't heard them called that, are back ordered at CJ, so I don't know what the diameter will be, but I need to raise the tips some to get them close to fitting. Thanks for the tip on the shackle bolts...looks like my tips will be higher than the bolts, but sounds like I should fit the bumper and put some tape marks to on the body panel to show where it sits.

    The 'Trumpets" references the origional exhaust tips, not the trim rings around the exhaust pipe.
