Fuel fill tube 68 with 70 tank (22 gal)

Anyone having done this what is the best way to fit the 68 filler tube to the 70 tank? I was thinking of making cut or two on the upper side ot the tube. Can anyone tell me how much a gap will be needed and how do you go about filling /closing it? All ideas / pictures welcome.
Thanks

Re: Fuel fill tube 68 with 70 tank (22 gal)

I installed a 70 22 gallon tank in my 67 F/B...it's been a while but if I remember correctly you only need to cut the tank end of the filler tube at a angle and use a longer hose...In addition I would add a vent tube while I was at it...Weld a bung for a 3/8 " vent hose on to the filler tube ...loop the hose up a as high as you can and down thru the trunk floor.....jj

NPD make a modified fuel filler for just such a modification. No cutting required.

Hay Commish: I got one from NPD It was juck!!!!   Grinder cuts on top side of tub, 7 to 8 deep hammer blows to bottom enough to make it a porblem in insets gas filler gun. Thanks for pointing it out though, to bad it such poor quality. Sent it back . They had 2 more and said both were the same or poorer condition.

Mustangs Plus has them, they fit perfectly for my application.  22 gallon tank in a 66 Mustang.
