I'm restoring a 66 coupe that originaly had a I6 to a v8 and curious about what type of shocks to use? I see KYB are usually used alot but Monroe is shown quite a bit and also alot cheaper. Is there a huge difference in handling and performance?

Avoid the monroe shocks. They do not last. I just took a set off and two were leaking and one was collapsed.
Any good shock is going to be gas charged nowadays. The KYB GadAdjust shocks are good shocks but ride pretty stiff. Name implies adjustable but they are not adjustable. I just put a set of Bilsteins on my 66. They are alot more firm than the old Monroes (to be expected) but ride quality is pretty good.

Somebody here recommended KYB GR-2 shocks. At the time it seemed they were very pleased with them. Might check the archives.
Enjoy

I was one of those. They are a great compromise between the too stiff GasAdjusts and the anemic Monroe or NAPA OEM replacement shocks.

I have the KYB GB-2 on the back of my 66' Ranchero and they ride nice with no weight in the back.
