More fastback carnage today

I finally decided it was time to get after it on the fastback crossmember and floor beams in order to get the TKO 600 in there.  I got the floor support beams off today.  Well, most of them anyway.  Only part left is what overlaps the front framerails on the outside L&R where there are about 16 spot welds to grind through.  I broke the spring on my air chisel, so I have to get a new one before removing those sections.  I found the air chisel blasts right through the spotwelds as long as there is thick metal underneath.  The floor welds that held the beams in are another story.

I have some new TinMan subframe connectors.  Since I have the floor beams off the car, I am going to extend the connectors 24" so they go all the way up into the front frame rails.  I can weld all of that stuff on there and then cap it off with the floor beams which, at that point, are all just for show.  I plan to weld a 1/4" thick x 2-1/4" wide piece of steel inside the bottom of the floor beams so there will never be another dent made into the new beams.  I am also adding 1970  torque boxes to the front.

When I came out from under that car this afternoon, I was barely recognizeable.  Also used my wire wheel to clean off the floorpans under the car.  Previous owner put some pretty decent paint down there, but it was all coated with 1/8" of crud.  Luckily, it comes off pretty easy, but I wound up wearing most of it in my hair and on my face.  NOTE TO SELF:  Get a face shield, wear a dust mask, wear a hat, and invite Ramses over...

I know... Pictures....  I figure what is the point of carnage pictures...  I will get some when I start fabbing up the frame connectors so some progress can be noted.  I just hope I can move my neck tomorrow.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Doing that up on a lift would be so nice.....  I wire wheeled the entire underside laying on a creeper.
