I have a rebuilt 289. It has a edelbrock intake and a 4 barrel holly carb. One valve cover has a spot for pcv valve the other oil input. The intake seems to have two pipe plugs in it. There is about a 3/4" spacer with a pipe plug in back. My question, where do I route the PCV and where is the best place to pick up other vacuum for things such as power brakes.

Typical setup has a PCV valve on the passenger side (be sure the valve cover has a baffle or it will suck oil) and the filtered fill cap on the driver side. I prefer to get PCV vacuum from the base of the carb. That way, any fumes sucked out of the engine get distributed and reburned evenly among all 8 cylinders, rather than just the 1 or 2 cylinders the typical intake threaded hole taps into.
Get the power brake vacuum from one of the vacuum plugs on the intake. Usually the opening taps into two intake runners to get a cleaner vvacuum signal. Since it is just pulling deadhead vacuum against the booster diaphragm, there is nothing but air getting pulled into those intake runners.
If you have a distributor with a vacuum diaphragm on it, be sure to hook it to the vac port on the passenger side of the carb, protruding out of the jet block, between bowl and carb body, NOT the one on the lower front of the carb.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Steve. I forgot to mention my distributer has mechanical advance, that is why I didn't ask about it.
