How is PROTHANE bushings different from rubber bushings on the strut rod? I don't want the hard poly bushings just the rubber(or something better). Don't need the squeak of the poly's.

Poly or urethane bushings are much harder durometer than stock and do not let the strut rod pivot in the bushing mount as they should. Instead, they cause the pivot action to occur in the strut rod itself, right where it exits the bushing, typically at the same point where they break the strut rod.

+1 on using rubber instead of Poly or urethane. The only other safe option is strut rods with quality spherical-bearing rod ends.

Guess I'm going with the more expensive rubber ones! Unbelievabububble!! 5 bucks EACH for rubber washers! May be because they are not changed that often and so the demand is low.

Just for the sake of clarity.
The 67-70 strut rods, cos of the wider track, are the ones that tend to suffer metal fatigue. The threaded section extends out beyond the bushing area and has no support.
However the 65-66's are not subject to the same stresses, as the bushing helps to prevent bending at this point. Up shot Poly ain't so bad on the 65-66's.
Better for any of the Classic Stangs is an articulated strut rod.
