The things I am working on

Made the removeable welding table to put on the HF rolling tool cart Finally making the AOD transmission holder to convert a HF engine stand to hold transmission.   Built a permanent dolly for an 18x36 office type horizontal file cabinet I bought at a garage sale for $ 5 dollars.  Made a jig to drill holes in round objects, since I loaned my last one out and it never came back.   Doing cleaning; making a scrap metal pile in my driveway the man picking the stuff up Tuesday, is doing all this on the side for extra $ to send a young man on a mission to a foreign country.

Costs:  Bed rails = free (side of the road pickups)
welding platform =  $10.  16 gauge sheet bought at a metal supply store off their cut pile.
drilling jig. = free.  my scrap metal pile.
dolly=  I think those casters were about $10 bucks at HF
transmission holder =  I dunno, I bought all the stuff last fall.  Im sure it was less than $25

Turning junk, and HF stuff into useful items.  All in all been a good day.   Exceptin for the never ending rain.

Re: The things I am working on

...now, where have I seen a transmission holding fixture like that before?   ...Good work there, Greg-o.

Transmission holding fixture I made out of some 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" boxed tubing (an old hand rail) and a piece of 2-3/8" (O. D.) diameter pipe.

Paper template for the shape of the boxed tubing.

Box tubing cut to shape.

Holding fixture assembled.

Holding fixture installed on 4R70W transmission. (will probably have to add a second bolt on top for stabilization, or drill a hole through the center of the top tube and move the existing top bolt).

transmission holding fixture installed on engine ...errr, transmission stand.

Re: The things I am working on

Yepp!  You were exactly where I got the idea from.   We discussed in the old forum.   Instead of cutting a large hole to put the thread nut in, I chopped about 1/4" inch off of it and slid them up inside, then tacked them from the top and bottom.

Tommorow, provided I am not starting on an ark, I am drilling the holes in the round portion, then I am going to notch it with the plasma cutter.   The bolts both need to be shortened, so I am going to do that, then grind the tips round to fit in the AOD slots.   I am going to make the inside bolt fixed in place.

Clean up my welds a tad more, then paint it black.  I usually dont paint things like this I make, but this one I am going to.

Oh, and yeah, pay no attention to the holes I drilled in the wrong side.     I may just weld it up for the hec of it.

That 3/16" square tubing is quite stout!   Everybody talks about a bigger welder,  now that my Weld Pac 100 is welding like it did when it was new, I was near blowing holes in it.   Whats a person going to weld on their car that is thicker than that?

PS,  I looked at one of my upper pictures, and I see the tail of  my garage helper buddy.   He wasnt happy with the rain either.

Re: The things I am working on

Here is what the yard sale cabinet now looks like.  Total investment 15 bucks.   Plan to store things like the circular saw and various things that wont fit in the regular toolbox  Maybe someday I will take off the Office Word 2006 stickers, and put some manly stickers on it.   I kind of wish I had bought both cabinets at the yard sale.

Re: The things I am working on

heres what I built and heres what it does.

Now to switch them around.     I putting in a new OD band, all external seals, a transgo kit, a thourogh govenor cleaning and changing the way the shifter detent works,  and then taking my chances.   If it frags, it frags.

Looking good Greg.  I wish I had your fabrication skills.  I've GOT to get a small welder and learn how to weld.  Unfortunately there probably aren't going to be any funds for that until my wife gets done with Radiology school.
