Today I finally made some real progress on the subframe connectors. I have the TinMan setup, but I did not like the fact they only extended about 8" into the floor support beams. On a car that has the original floor beams in place, that is about as far as you can get them in there. But, since I am replacing the floor beams, I could easily make a longer piece to connect the front of the TinMan parts way up into the front frame rails 8-1/2". The extra pieces on the bottom are there to keep the bottom of the floor beams from ever getting dented by a jack again. There is a full 5/8" thickness down there. I still have to drill the holes in the front frame rails so the extended framework can be plugwelded to them. Then once that is all done, the floor beams will get welded on to the front frame rails by plugwelding multiple times and then the floor will be plug welded to the top of the floor beam flanges. So, nearly all the stuff you see in the pictures will be hidden by a nice stock looking (non-bent) floor beam. Then I am going to make some better connections at the rear where the subfrme connectors weld to the torque boxes. I think I can extend the rails back about 10" to transfer more strength into the framerails in the back as well. I will probably box the rails in with the entire floor since that has been the plan for about ten years now. I hate to take shortcuts at tghis point.
This is no comparison to Hakan's artwork, but hey, what do you expect from an old Texas boy with an air chisel, a hammer and a welder?
The pile of bent metal is what is left of the old floor beams. They have been bent real bad from previous owner using a bottle jack under them. I have hated that for 21 years now. New ones will be real nice!

Yeah, terry, for sure. Thos floor support beams were on that car when I bought it in 1992. I knew they were all bent up, but I never saw them, so it did not matter. It is the lift that CAUSED all this work! Now that I can see them when the car is stored up high, they had to GO !!! Plus all the issues of cutting up the tranny tunnel to get the TKO in there helped a bit, too. Now it is a case of the WYAIT going on, so at least it will be DONE when I get through under there.

sounds like you have a plan now Steve.
My car has enough defects that I couldn't fix them all now. In the future I'll buy a rotissary and a lift so i can do the work right! for now I'll watch you do yours.

The sad part is that floor beam looks better on the concrete than it did on the car.
