My weekend adventure

I have been making point to drive my car more and more (that's how I found out about my turn signals not working) and took a little cruise 25 or so miles to the Ford World HQ.  Then I figured that while there I would snap a couple photos of my car in front of the building (that's roughly 15 stories high?). I was in the parking lot and not really very close to the building.  While doing so I must have put the security team on alert because in the matter of a minute I was confronted by a security officer telling me that I had done a no no!  I had to delete the photos from my phone and leave. Bummer but at least it didn't escalate beyond that.  But while I realize that they want to protect their property and all that, I don't understand why a few photos of a classic 65 mustang in front of the Ford HQ would create such a fuss!  Sign of the times I guess.

Re: My weekend adventure

You don't have to be swarthy to freak out a security guard these days. Remember Timothy McVeigh?. The first thing he is going to think when he sees a stranger taking pictures of the facility he is guarding is "he's looking for the perfect place to plant a bomb".  The quickest way to see the inside of a police station is to smart mouth the security guard because he WILL call the police and their responsibility is to protect their taxpayers (Ford Motor Company) not some tourist from out of town.

Ford has higher level security than most companies due to industrial espionage. I do know that one time Ford got their security guards from Pinkerton and they do carry guns.

Oh yeah, think twice before pulling up to a remote section of airport fence and taking pictures of the pretty planes.

This ain't the 1950's anymore folks.

Re: My weekend adventure

Back in the day, there used to be an official parking lot right at the west end of the runway at Lambert Intnl. Airport dedicated to watching planes take off and land.
They literally would come over your head a few  hundred feet off the ground.
Families would take their kids, have snacks and loiter for several hours mere yards from the runway.
It was a fun destination.
A cool memory from growing up that is the bygone product of the times we live in.

Rudy   #1-License to carry a weapon or  (CCW) isn't a license to kill..I hope you were kidding.. Ford motor company is not a government agency (at least technically) there a private business There for they are obligated to the same laws as any other company or individual. Now perhaps they use off duty cops for there security, even so it's not illegal to photograph, or video tape the building, OR the police for that matter #2 I bet if he told his story to the guy behind the biggest desk in that building he'd be appalled at the way he was treated. If ah customer of mine was so loyal and inspired buy one of my products that they wanted to bring it to the front of my shop to take photo's of it and where it was made and an employee of mine with an over inflated sense of importance treated them that way he'd be pounding pavment!!

Re: My weekend adventure

Thanks for saving me the trouble of a conversation with the Ford Rent-A-Cops.  I was thinking about heading to the Glass Palace for a couple of photos with my car.   I hope you get your electrical problems sorted out soon.  Thinking about getting the coupe out today for a drive.

Derek,

A couple of points of clarification. If someone drives their car up to the front of the office building, they are on Ford's property and have to obey Ford's rules. If those rules are violated, like taking unauthorized pictures, then you are guilty of at least trespass. If Ford brings in the police, you wait while they check for industrial espionage. If you are having a really bad day, you get to talk to the Homeland Security folks who can keep you as long as they want, no phone calls, no lawyers. This may not be right or just, but it is legal. I have seen a guy arrested for refusing to show the door checker his sales receipt at Sam's Club, so carefully pick the battles you are willing to fight.

The guy behind the biggest desk at Ford would probably order the picture taker arrested after learning he was driving a classic Mustang. Ford makes little or no money from classic Mustangs, only some licensing fees for reproduction parts. Ford would like to see everything older than ten years crushed so new cars would be bought. Over the last several years, Ford has sued every parts manufacturer, supplier and Magazine the uses Ford, Mustang, or any of their other trademarked words. Their official reason was protection of their trademarks, but they tried really hard to shut down several of the old Mustang parts suppliers and Mustang Monthly magazine. If they couldn't call it Mustang Monthly, what could they call it and still let their readers know what the content is? They can't call it Pony Car Magazine either since Ford owns the rights to Pony Car too.

It's all about the money. Old Mustangs don't make Ford money. Don't expect Ford to be happy to see your old Mustang.

I don't know much about this subject, but if the above is only partily true, not saying it isn't, but if it is only part true its sad.  I fear that you are probably correct.
