Parked at the curb in front of Doctor's office on the 31st - this is what I found when I came out. Guy who hit it (and shoved it into the car parked in front of it) at least left a note saying 'very sorry & here's all my info'. Anything's fixable but it's still a pretty big bummer that this car is now a victim after 48 yrs as a very straight/rust/bondo/accident free survivor and my perfect original hood is now whacked. Hopefully insurance won't be a real pain in the butt and hopefully I can find a good shop... On the bright side I suppose this is an opportunity to do some subtle mods (small flares, R-model apron & scooped hood are my thoughts) and maybe add the 'ghost' stripes I'd been thinking about.

I really like the body work on Mike Maier's hardtop:

Sorry to see that. I think I can feel your pain from here.

I am so, so sorry.

%#§§¿ !!! That just torques me off. Isn't Maier in the Bay Area? Take it to him.

Very sorry to see that beautiful mustang bent up! Nice to see a stand up person own up to their mistake.

Man, I am bummed looking at that. Was it really a guy that hit you? No guy could do that to another classic car and just drive off, just leaving a note. There's a good bit of damage there. That had to make a loud noise and racket.

I know the pain you are going through. A new 427 will help... I know a couple of shops to NOT take it to... That is a beautiful car.

Wow I'm mad! How distracted do you have to be to hit ah parked car !

That is a real cryin' shame. Very nice car there...and it will be again. Our's in in the shop getting all it's warts removed and new paint. The guy is doing very nice work and I shutter to think how I'd feel if something like that happens when it's finished.
Good luck,
BB

I don't know if you want to make a coast to coast trip, but for a car like yours I would. Check out Rusty Gillis, he's way far away in FL, but the work he does is amazing!
Just go through this forum and look for anything posted by "rusty428cj"

Got the car back from the shop a coupla weeks ago, lucked out and found a good place that did a great job salvaging the quarter panel - old school sheetmetal skills. Took the opportunity before taking it in to the shop to tear things down, fit some new pieces and clean up a lot of behind the scenes stuff though I didn't quite manage to finish the garage remodel & driveway replacement while the car was gone but glad she's home again.

That is some seriously slick paint!

There are 2 members on here who have painted their bumpers. Both cars are black and I really like that look! McStang or Lance what did you do to the chrome to prep it to hold paint??? If I didn't have both new bumpers I might consider doing that to mine
McStang that looks like you found a good body shop!!

I probably spent too much time thinking about what to change once I realized that the car would have to be totally repainted if I wanted it to come out right. For the bumpers my 'secret trick' is fiberglass snug-fit parts from Maier Racing. Both front and rear took some massaging to get the fit I wanted - had to cut the rear in half to make it about 3/8" wider even though it fit almost perfectly with no mods on my buddy's car. Spent a lot of time talking to Mike M. about fitting fiberglass and the pretty extreme variations from one car to another - stuff that modern bodyshops almost never have to deal with I gather. Anyway, I decided to go for more of a stealth fighter look, little shinier though (
) and also pulled all the eblems, rocker moldings and quarter vent moldings. I'm planning on putting the rest of the shiny stuff back on though. The hood and front valence are also from Mike's shop. Good stuff and good folks to deal with.

I agree with Terry, I really like the all black look with the bumpers black. Nice job

How slick is it.........? If you left it parked in the sun it would drip right off. Too much paint for me. I'd have to hire some one just to keep it up and looking good.

No thankfully. The guy left a note and our folks, State Farm, handled the whole thing with the shop that I took it to – recommended by Maier Racing – with no fuss at all. I, of course, elected to have some extra work done that cost me more but overall it ended up being a good deal for the 'upgrades' I think. Funny 'cuz this is what the public service officer that documented the incident in the first place said might happen, "you could end up coming out ahead in the long run". He also gave me a card for his Uncle’s shop… In hindsight I'd have to agree with his general assessment though, it's a better paint job than it had before, cost me less than it would've if I'd started from scratch and I got to fix a bunch of other stuff without having to worry about messing up paint that I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.
The shop I took the car to mostly does work on new luxury cars but is run by a friend of Mike's who has built a couple of pretty slick vehicles even if there's something questionable about the badging...

Derick, are you really from New England? Mc...that really sux...nice loolking ride there. Guess thats why these ins companies don't want to insure daily drivers

McStang - good info, thanks. I have State Farm also, when I insured the car I specifically asked about coverage and informed them of the money spent on the vehicle for which I have the receipts. They responded 'no problems', I asked if they wanted to take pictures for documentation purposes, they stated it wouldn't be necessary. The agent called back a few days later and asked me to bring the car to the office to take pictures. I was glad that they did as apparently they followed up rather then just telling me what I wanted to hear and accepting my payment.
Your car looks great.
