i want to install a tilt column in my 1965 ford mustang coupe  with six cyl. it has the  original steering box with the long shaft to the steering wheel.  what  year steering box will fit  with a short shaft or  what other ford steering box will inter change with the original one that would bolt in.  i have an after mareket flamming river column also will the power steering box work with out the rest of the power set up?

Re: steering box manual

Probably best to go with aftermarket, unless you can get a Ford van or F-150 column from 78-79 era and heavily modify it. Also you will need a 67-70 steering box, preferrable one from a power steering car so it has the quick ratio.  By the time you get through with all thta, you might just want to consider a rack&pinion setup.

Re: steering box manual

67 Mustang drum brake MC will work fine.  The front bowl goes to the rear brakes and the rear bowl (nearest firewall) goes to the front brakes.

It is best when using a tandem piston master cylinder to also use a differential pressure valve in the system.  The image was provided by ultrastang on the truck forum.  It shows a drum brake differential pressure valve.  Any 67 or later car or light truck with 4 wheel drums will have one.
