Convertible fills up with water in heavy rain

Anyone had this problem with a late model convertible?  My 2007 GT has, during the last two rainstorms, developed a lake in the right front floorboard, draining from under the dash.  I parked it outside alot recently, and the hackberry seeds must be plugging some drain or something.  It has never leaked a drop in the past.  Anyone else have this issue with an 05 or newer Mustang?

Re: Convertible fills up with water in heavy rain

Yes, my daughter's 07 CS has done this. It is a clogged rubber drain that can be reached by opening the hood, there is one on each side of the firewall about 1/2 way down. They are flexible rubber and can be unclogged by reaching in and cleaning out with a finger, then spray water down in front of the cowl to finish cleaning out the debris. Check your cabin filter and replace if wet.

Re: Convertible fills up with water in heavy rain

My 06 gt convert leaked from the day I got it new. Yup the water ends up front passanger floor. after taking the entire car apart and damaging most of, they found the leak was coming from the driverside trunk area. Take a look under the rear seat bottom, if theres water there its the same defect. Somehow it runs foward.

Re: Convertible fills up with water in heavy rain

RickD nailed it on my car, as did Ramses.  I stuck my finger in that rubber sleeve and it let out about a gallon or more water plus alot of leaves.  I pulled the cabin filter and it was wet about the bottom 1/2.  Blew it out with air, cleaned remaining leaves from that cavity in front of the firewall and now there is a fan blowing on the carpet to dry it out.  That should fix it.

It is weird that what you THINK is the firewall on that car is not really the same piece as the firewall under the dash.  There is about a 5" gap between the two.  I guess that helps keep the heat out of the car, but it sure does trap alot of water!

I bet I have not opened the hood on that car 10 times since I have owned it.  The only work done on the car ever was under warranty when the dealer swapped out the entire rear axle assembly to try and quiet a slight noise.  It did not fix the noise.  Turns out, and I did not even know this at the time, the car has a two-piece driveshaft and I believe the noise, unchanged to this day, is coming from the center bearing of it.  I bought a brand new driveshaft assembly from a 2012 Mustang GT on craigslist.  It has less than 1,000 miles on it.  I hope it will replace mine some day.  They sure do not even resemble the old driveshafts at all.  I paid a guy $40 for his driveshaft, panhard bar, struts, shocks, springs and rear stock gears.  He just wanted the stuff out of his garage, I think so his wife could have more room for her Escalade.

Thanks to all who responded.  I guess it is time to start getting more familiar with this 2007 GT.  It has 92,000 miles on it, and I am trying to get it to 100k before wrenching on it.

Re: Convertible fills up with water in heavy rain

I figured SOMEBODY would make that suggestion...

There is some corrolary I had read somewhere to do with containers.
Something to the effect that the tiniest really small hole will completely drain the largest tank, but a large drain hole installed for the purpose of draining the tank will clog up and keep it from draining.

Murphy at work.
