Falcon Project Plan

This is goin to be the extream BUDGET build, using as many used parts as I can dig out of the shed, attic, and garage (only if they are good).

The existing drivetrain:
170 in-line
1 bl carb
2 speed auto
7.5 rear
4 wheel drum brakes

New Drivetrain:
250 inline (shave head to increase compression to 9.0-1)
Hedder, dual exhaust
2 bl carb conversion
Electronic Ign
T-5 (Mustang Steve Cable)
8.8 rear end (trac loc, 3.73 gear, disc brakes)
Mustang Steve GT disc brake kit with booster

I believe it will be more gear than it wants, a 3.55 or even a 3.31 would be better, but I can change that later, the 3.73 will just make 4th and even 5th usable around town.

I am going to beef up the cooling system and add AC as well.

Any thought or concerns.

Re: Falcon Project Plan

That 250 is a torque monster, so yes, a lower numerically gear would be better. The 250 is 0.9 inches taller, so you may have some hood clearance issues with the air cleaner. A very low profile air cleaner is in your future. I didn't see a new distributor on your list. Don't try to reuse the distributor from the 170, get one with a centrifugal advance. Enjoy. That 250 with the header will sound unlike anything else at the Malt Shop.

Re: Falcon Project Plan

I plan to use a later model distributor and Duraspark box,

The use of Maverick motor mounts is suppose to greatly help the hood clearance issues, but I will mock it up and lower it a bit if need be. I think the Falcon may have more engine compartment height than a Mustang.

I believe i have a set of 3.08 gears in the shed, that may go in it.
