65 Strut rod bushing question….

Looking ahead.... I have the Moog bushings with the steel sleve buried in the bushing.  When I put the two halves of the bushing together, the steel sleeves butt up against each other.  The main part of the bushing halves have a gap between them that is way wider than the thickness of the the Mustang's frame, where the rod goes through.  Is this gap going to close when I tighten the nut on the end of the stock strut rod, or did the wrong part come in the properly labeled box??

I read, and will follow the directions that say to "reverse" the washers on the replacement Moog kit.

Re: 65 Strut rod bushing question….

When I had strut rods with bushings, they were just rubber.  No steel sleeves.  What it sounds like you may have is rear spring bushings.  They have steel sleeves and are close to the size of SR bushings.

Post a photo.  That will help a lot.

Re: 65 Strut rod bushing question….

I put that same kit on my 66 a while back. They will compress when you torque it down. Follow the directions in the kit. You may need an alignment afterwards. You may need to push the control arms back to get the rods to line up with the holes in the lower arms. I had to do that on mine.

Good, fast or cheap. Pick any two...

Thanks for the confirmation.  I'm doing ball joints, tie rods, control arm shafts & bushings, etc., so an alignment was on the list already.

Re: 65 Strut rod bushing question….

I used bushings from Mustang Depot on my '66, worked fine. Link to pic,
