Has anyone put an Antenna under the fender ??

Thinking twice about drilling a hole in my fender...Would like to hide it....Will I get the same reception under the fender with a standard antenna mounted up top above the wheel fore to aft....jj

I bought one of those antennas that supposedly can be mounted anywhere.  I put it under my console,  FM works great by AM is non-functional.

Stick it under there with a bungee cord and let us know if it works!

I'd just do one of these street rod hidden antennas....http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Search?query=radio+antenna

Re: Has anyone put an Antenna under the fender ??

I don't think it will work under the fender. The fender is ground to the radio and will ground out the radio waves before hitting the antenna. Best I can explain it. Do they sell that old tape that sticks to the windshield for a antenna any more?

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: Has anyone put an Antenna under the fender ??

Metal surfaces reflect radio waves. If the antenna is surrounded by sheet metal, expect little to no radio reception.

Re: Has anyone put an Antenna under the fender ??

Im having the same dilema on my 67.  Im gonna try one of those hide aways.  I believe they stick to the upper windshield on the inside with 2 sided tape.  Im quiet away from being there though.

Re: Has anyone put an Antenna under the fender ??

I went through great pains and expense putting a quality 4 speaker sound system and retractable antenna in my car, I hardly ever put the radio on.

Re: Has anyone put an Antenna under the fender ??

I have one of those flexy/rubber antennaes and just laid it inside the glove box opening sorta on top of the heater plenum. Although my radio is in the glovebox I really just wanted a radio with an AUX port to plug in my MP3. I have speakers in each door.....three in the rear window deck..and one in the dash. My car is sorta noisey butt  I have enough volume to really "rock out" when I have the cruise on......big glass of ice water....big chew of tobacco......sun shades on...and NOW a Garmin to tell me where to turn!

Re: Has anyone put an Antenna under the fender ??

I put a regular antenna under the dash, between the heater box and firewall of my /66. I slipped a length of clear vynal tubbing over it first to stop rattles. Worked great.  M.
