While getting my car ready for the new timing cover I was cleaning off the block heads etc. I noticed my block is blue. Weren't all 64.5-65 blocks black with gold valve covers? I'm thinking to myself I wonder I I have a newer block. I also pulled off my powersteering bracket and a/c bracket. I found a ID stamp on the ac bracket it says c5aa28826. Alternator bracket c5aa 8a619-b. I didn't find one on powersteering bracket. And my intakes aftermarket no help.
Where's the factory stamp on the block so I can find out if someone swaped engines?

It should be on the block right around the starter. You may have to remove the starter to see it. On my 87 302 it is on the opposite side of the block!

the numbers on your brackets are ford part numbers/casting number.......terry referenced the starter area of your block; that will also show the casting number plus a producation number (cast date)
go to mustangtek.com and check out all their catagories to learn more on Ford's part numbers/casting numbers.
They also have a link to "decode" those numbers...........that'll keep you busy for awhile.........

Just one nit picky note: Since your car is a 1965 you won't be able to tell if it is the original block, just whether or not the date casting are consistent with your build date (unless your car is a K code).
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
