I'm having my quarter interior panels recovered and since it is a Vert. there are 3 snaps on each side for the boot. I got the replacements from CJMustang, but I don't see how to rivet them in. Does it take a special rivet tool?

I used to do some leather work, Mike, and I think I still have a "set" that will work on those. I need to root around out in the garage for a bit but I'll shoot you an email later this eve.

The answer to your question is: no rivet gun, those types of rivets are usually set with a punch type setting tool (as BB said). The punch usually has a raised dimple in the middle surrounded by a circular depression, think reverse donut. The idea is to flare the tube of the rivet and roll it down until the rivet is tight. You need a setting tool sized for your rivets. Usually the large head is placed on a block of wood to keep from damaging it while you are using the punch on the tube of the rivet. If there is a rivet you cannot take to the workbench, then you will have to figure out how to support the rivet head while you are setting it. Having another hand or two would help.

Dang, maybe I'll just find some that screw in. Didn't know these would be so hard to get in. If I want these in I assuming I'll have to find a leatherworker with the proper tools to set them for me. Thanks Mike

Mike, look at the Scott Drake convertable snap sets, they look like they may fasten differently.

Looked in three places, Mike...no joy. I can't find diddly since I moved from the garage to the shop.
If I run across it before you do something else I'll holler.
Sorry,
BB

Hornman these are Scott Drake. I'll check though, they may make another style also. Thanks Mike

Thanks BB, I can get some screw in from the upholsterer, probably just go that route. They're not exactly like the original but close enough. Thanks Mike

Our local upholstry shop has bulk snaps.
I use them with an aluminum pop rivet and small back up washer. Not concourse correct but IDGAF.
A couple of those back up washers on the rivet shank will keep the rivet gun nose piece off of the snap face.

Bummer. I hate it when that happens.
