u joint help

Hey all,

So I just got my 57 passenger car 9 inch rear end installed.......what a great project...fit like a glove. Now I need the 1310/1330 ujoint to complete the install. Problem is I ordered the fms one from summit and I have an early 65 fastback so my driveshaft has the small 1" caps on the rear of the shaft. I thought I could simply use my old caps on the new u joint but the problem is the "machined stud" that the caps slide onto are 0.65 diameter vs 0.57 of my old ujoint......thus the 1" caps wont slide onto the 1310/1330 ujoint. Does anyone know of ujoints with one inch caps that fits onto a 0.65 diameter u joint stud?
Help!

Re: u joint help

I am not a U-joint guy.  You need to find someone in your area that makes driveshafts, go to them and even take your driveshaft or old u-joint and I'm sure they can come up with a solution.  I just had a DS made and they were able to match everything up.  Good luck, Mike

Re: u joint help

Check out this link detailing how I put a modern aluminum driveshaft in my '67.  It has pictures and part numbers.

For the rear u-joint I had to use one u-joint with two caps off of a different u-joint. I'm not sure if that is what you need or not, but it will at least be a place to start looking.
