Below are pics I took of my last 68 convertible with duals and factory manifolds. Hope it helps.

Pics of tail pipe area. Note use correct band clamps and not regular clamps shown. Due to so little room near the gas tank on drivers side.

Wow, that dose NOT look like a very good place for a vibrating clamp. Thanks for the heads up. Diameter of exhaust pipe? 2, 2 1/4, 2 1/2??

I assume that the hole in your gas tank has been repaired/replaced? Wow - you were lucky!

It happened on the first real test drive I did in the neighbourhood, and I noticed it as soon as I got home. I was astounded that it could have moved with such force, but the the clamp has a very sharp corner and was in just the right position to pierce the tank. The tank was mint, so I cleaned it up and repaired it with that putty like tank repair material, then painted it to blend. Worked perfectly. Then changed to the proper band clamps. No problems since.

You probably could have cut the extra threads off that clamp, rotated it 40 or so degrees CCW and used it as well.
Glad everthing turned out OK.
