efi swap question

Hello I'm new on this board a little different than the turbo buick forum but here goes. Currently I'm in the middle of doing an efi/t5 swap in my wife's 66 fast back. Yes i have Mustang Steve's clutch and pedal set up. My issue is the t5 did not come with the vehicle speed (vss) sensor. From my research I have found the 66 cable will screw on.however the vss plug  from my wiring harness does not match the sensors I've looked at. Does anyone know which vss sensor I need or either a ford or Napa etc part number.

Thanks
Darren

Re: efi swap question

What EFI sytem are you going to use?  If you are using a Ford Mass Air system from an 88 to 93 Mustang....most common and most reliable IMO.... you  want the VSS from that year Ford.  I'm not that familiar with the T5 but the automatics from that era used a VSS that went into the speedo cable hole.  Then the speedo cable plugged into the VSS.  A special speedo cablel is available from Ron Morris and others to accomodate this set up.

As for the electrical connector, the VSS connector is a two-terminal, more-or-less rectangular connector.  Ford used the same one for years so I'm back to the original question....what system are you using?

And, are you sure your are not looking at the neutral safety/backup light connector and not the VSS connector?

Re: efi swap question

Before you go out and buy one, I may have a VSS from an 87 Mustang 5.0.
If I can find it you can have it for whatever it costs me to mail it to you.

Re: efi swap question

The VSS sensor from the same era(late 80's early 90's) mustang would fit in the T5 if you are needing a speedometer cable as well.  If you are going with an electronic speedo, getting a speed sensor from a 2000's mustang will also fit the transmission, and the speedo cable hole in the sensor is plugged.

Re: efi swap question

Yes I'm using the 89-93 set up. I understand now. Going to order the Ron morris cable. Thanks for the help. I'm sure I will have more questions.

If it came from a car with an idiot light, you have to hook it up. I ran mine thru a bulb and a (I believe) 500 ohm resistor in case the bulb blew. It's the same thing ford did.
