Ok, I guess I will just add to this post to update you guys as the Mach 1 comes back together for the Setember trip.
The first order of business is to determine what motor I really have, the car is a 73 mach 1, Q code, 351 Cleveland 4v. The problem I have is listed below are the date codes, casting #'s I have found:
Block - casting # DOAE-L, Date code OG9 (should be June 9, 1970)
Heads - Date code OF29 (should be May 29, 1970)
Intake - Casting # DOAE-9425-L (should be 70-71)
The heads do have the "4" in the upper corners, 4V intake and exhaust manifolds.
So I am not sure what motor I have, but since the 73 4V motor was the weakest of them all, any of the others should be the same or stronger. The motor sounds tight, has good oil pressure, and basically runs fairly well. Pulled the valve covers and everything is extreamly clean, so at least the oil was changed. There does not seem to be any leaks. It has a Eldebrock performer 750 carb, not real wild about it.
I tore the 9" down tonight, and it's a good thing I did, one of the carrier bearings had come apart ( chunks of bearing and metal everywhere), but somehow it still turned smooth.
When I get to work in the morning I will post some photos of what and where I am with this thing.

You going to punch that thing out to 408, or so??
Otherwise aren't Aussie 2v heads supposed to be the best Ford ones??
And finally didn't I see you on 7173 yestreday??

Well the date codes predate your car so at least that's correct. But casting from mid 70 and used in a '73 2-3 years later seems too long. Maybe not since I think blocks and heads might have had to lie around and age or season a bit before use. Anything could have happened to your car in the last 40 years to necessitate an engine change. There's got to be info out there regarding what numbers "should" be in your car from a concourse judging point of view.

Yea Tubo, I have been trying to take advantage of those guys on 7173 site for all the info specific to this madel car, seems to be some good people over there as well.
Yes there is a lot of good info out there as for casting #'s and dates, but alot of it does not match up.
This is what I am starting with, the photos are very forgiving, the paint is terible, and the left quarter is pretty wavy.
Here it sets now, all of the suspension, brakes, and most of the fuel system out. I need to order the MustangSteve door hinge rebuild kit.
The underside is in great shape, just nees a lot of cleaning and paint.
The wheel wells are in great condition, they just went heavy on the undercoating, that will be fun to clean.
Rear end out, now I will tear down and detail. Going to swap out the 3.90 gears for 3.00 for now.
Parts of one of the carrier bearings floating around in the bottom of the rearend housing.
I have been busy blasting parts, serching for original parts, and gathering parts.
I will keep everyone updated as I go, and I'm sure I'll be asking for support.
Thanks

Hears a couple photos of what it looks like with the new Magnuum 500's, sorry for the bad quality photo. I went with BFG's, 245 front and 255 rear 15x8 wheels all around. In the photoos I have a jack holding the front end up where it should be. The PO cut the front spings to the point that it was setting on the bump stops and the long tube headers were about 2" of the ground. Nothing new suspension, and stock mainfolds won't fix.
Heres a shot of the inside, not terrible, but not great, the drivers door panel/armrest is pretty rough. I plan to change the exterior color back to the factory blue, or may go with a green, and for that reason along with others, I am considering changing the interior to black, some of the blue is hard to get and match.

jj....didn't I read somewhere on some of the Clevelands(after 70) FoMoCo installed the cam RETARDED to kill some of the HP to make US Guvmint happy? A new cam drive COULD restore plenty of power to the Cleve!
Justa thank'in
