just out of coursity what would a 429SCJ be worth? it is my understanding that there is only one head and no intake. i am told that the short block is rebuildable. i was told that if it were complete it was worth 50K, i just don't see it, you guys might have better insight than i.

Not sure of the value, but I don't see it going for 50K. Even if it was a complete engine, carb to oil pan with both exhaust manifolds and all parts correctly date coded and freshly rebuilt. There should be a forum for the 385 series motors that could give you a better answer.

A price of 50K would be more fitting for a Boss 429 engine professional built by only a few top builders like, Barry Robotnik of Survival, or Jon Kaase.....jj

It is still possible to find the DOVE heads and an authentic SCJ iron intake shows up on ebay occasionally. The correct Holley carb is hard to find and expensive. If you want to put together a SCJ with factory parts it should be possible for $10,00-15,000. Use aluminum Ford Racing SCJ heads, an aluminum aftermarket intake, and an aftermarket carb you can build a SCJish 429 that will make more HP than the factory parts for less money.
I cannot think of any scenario where a complete factory 429 SCJ engine would be worth $50,000 unless it was NOS still in the crate.

Your one head, no intake, "rebuildable" engine is worth no more than $1000. I personally would pay no more than $500. I bought a complete (with all brackets) 429 Cobrajet still bolted to its C6 for $1200 for both.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
