Better way to join cut E Brake cable

Is there a neater more elegant way to join the cut ends of an e brake cable other than using a couple of u bolt fasteners?  This just doesn't look to appealing to me and I was hoping that someone would have a  better idea.
Thanks for any input.

Re: Better way to join cut E Brake cable

You can fabricate a couple of  thick wall steel tube type fasteners app. 2 1/2" long ,drill and tap for two flat setscrews same side for each cable end 8 total... will look trick if you taper the tube ends in a lathe....jj

Check this system out.  A similar set up is used in Air Craft applications. If you know a lineman, as the guy that climbs the pole for the electric utility, he should have this tool and the little couplings.

OOPS.  I did not realize this post was up twice.  Ron 68s pictures are what I was describing in the
above post.

Re: Better way to join cut E Brake cable

Look at the tool below at Amazon.com, or just do a search for hand swaging tool.

I have two different tools which each do 3 different size cables.  Also make sure to get the connectors.  Many can be found at hardware stores in the section where you buy the u-bolts.

Works great and makes a strong connection.

Swaging Tool (1/16", 3/32", 1/8")

Re: Better way to join cut E Brake cable

is there a neater more elegant way to join cable ends....ABSOLUTELY!

I dislike those u-bolt things too. They are just like adapter in your brake lines...EH, Mustang Steve??

If you hava a Marine West near by..in the past they swaged cable for free (you buy the swage sleeves). Or find a full-on sail boat shop and they usually do swaging too for a few $ each. Also a rigging supply house may be able to help.

I finally bought my own swaging tool cuz I did so many.

I never said I LIKED those clamps on my car...just said they worked, and would someday get changed out.  Looks like someday is here pretty soon...  No, they are WORSE than brake line adapters, but they were out of sight and out of mind, until I bought that darned LIFT!

What swage tool did you buy?
