Got a starter from a 92 mustang V8. Put it in my 66 T5 conversion. It has the selinoid on the starter. A friend of mine told me to wire a jumper wire from the bat terminal to the start terminal on the starter itself. Then just wire it like the original starter. Anyways, it's been hangin up at start up. Took it apart and the teeth look good, so do the flywheel teeth which is brand new. So how should it be wired? Any suggestions to why it is hanging up? Thanks.

Even though the mini starter has a solenoid in it, Ford still used a chassis mounted solenoid with a diode. The diode would prevent the starter from hanging after engine start.
I use a 86-93 Fox body solenoid(w/diode) to replace the 65-73 solenoid origionally in the classic Mustang. No hang issues.
Diagram of how to wire the starter to solenoid.
Essentially it goes; large starter wire to BATTERY solenoid post. 12 gage wire from starter spade connector to solenoid POWER OUT post. Some folks swear you don't need the dioded solenoid when connected this way

Thanks for the info. I have other wires hooked to my current selinoid. Where do I place them on the new one?

Either use the one you have or(better) replace it with a Fox body model. Your only swapping two wires.
Starter power to A post and 12 gage wire from starter spade terminal to solenoid B post.
Take them heavy duty Thump Thump base amps out of the car, and you should have room on the solenoid.
