I've been comptenplating a toploader behind about 400 or so hp 390 in my sons 67 coupe, but from what I've been reading that OD 5th sounds nice, how much power will the T-5 take and is it adaptable to the FE? Any info would be welcome.

I just bought a new t5z. According to the spec, they say low 300 hp. Ofcourse there is a magnitude of safety so I'm sure failure limit is considerably higher. I've read of mid 500 for a few strip runs before needing to be rebuilt. They guy over at modern driveline has one that runs at 486hp and he said he didn't have any problems. Honestly, I wouldn't push above 350ish unless you want to be rebuilding these from time to time. That's my goal. I'm running just slightly above stock 225 on a 5.0 HO.

Thanks for the info, we're doing the body now and trying to plan ahead some, we have been planning to use a 63 T-bird 390 I have sitting around (factory 300hp 427lbs torque) with a little massaging in the induction and a pro-comp cam should make about 400 to 450 hp. I'm old enough to remember rowing a toploader just beats hell out of an automatic so we've been doing a lot reading and overdrive sounds really good it might make this thing a little less thirsty and a little longer winded on top end (though I don't know where we could actually wind it out to see) so thanks again.
P.S. I don't know if I'm doing this for him or me.

Up until about 2 years ago, I was a manual transmission only kind of guy.
However, after buying a '69 F-100 with a C-4 I was thinking about installing an AOD, even though I'm not a big fan of the AOD. I had talked to Corky (Tubo) about the 4R70Ws he was running in his '65 fasback and '73 convertible. --since the 4R70W evolved from the old AODs.
He pointed me to some suggested links and I found/read many other sources of information on this transmission. It's a very stout transmission in basic stock configuration and brutally strong if built up. It would easily handle 600 hp.
If you like the control of shifting the transmission when you want it to shift, you can configure it to only shift when it gets an input from you.
There are adapters to install it behind an FE big-block or a 385-series 429/460 big-block.
Wouldn't hurt to check it out without giving it some consideration just because it's an auto slush box.
