Brake light switch

65 Mustang/289/MT/PS-problem-changed to front disk, new manual brake 2 bowl master cylinder. Every thing good up to this point. New m/c push rod slightly shorter about 1/4-1/2 inch. Install brake light switch and rear lights come on for split second only and stay off while Bpedel depressed. Changed out brake light switch same thing happening? Any suggestions?

Re: Brake light switch

I had a similar problem with my 66. MS suggested a 70 switch for an automatic . Worked great. Not sure if that is your problem but for no more than one cost it's worth a try.

Re: Brake light switch

You need to use the original 65/66 pushrod of the correct length.  Your aftermarket rod will not give correct pedal geometry and is probably not designed as well as an original and does not give the brake light switch the correct mounting position so it will work.

You can jump across brake sw, that will tell you for sure if problem is in the car or switch area

Re: Brake light switch

Thanks for advice. I think will need to do what MS suggested. The new switch works if I rotate counter clockwise and hold it, but obviously does not stay in that position.
