Brake booster and hydraulic clutch masrer cylinder fitment

Has anyone installed both a 8" brake booster and a hydraulic clutch master cylinder in a '67 or '68 Mustang?
Heres the back story...

I am converting my '67 coupe from C6 automatic to a 5 speed.  I am installing a hydraulic clutch and the clutch master cylinder mounts in the factory provided punch-out hole which was used for the factory z-bar setup. I have power brakes and am using a single diaphragm Midland brake booster (factory '67 booster) which measures 7" in diameter. The clutch MC will just barely fit next to the 7" Midand booster and is a typical setup.

I am running 4 wheel disc and want to install a 8" dual diaphram booster which would greatly improve pedal force. The problem is I would have to move the clutch MC about 1/2" to 3/4" to allow for the 8" booster (as opposed to the 7" Midand which will fit).  I would have to enlarge the punch out hole to move the clutch MC but doing so will weaken the mounting location for the MC and will change the alignment of the MC to the clutch pedal.  If anyone has done this setup I would appreciate some advice.

The factory 67-69 Midland booster was a dual diaphragm. That is why it is so long.   The booster in ultrastang's picture is a Fox Mustang V8 booster (note vac port at top center) 
The 69 Bendix booster (see pic below)  just like that fox booster except for mounting studs and input shaft length, is also dual diaphragm but has the vacuum port offset towards the engine side of the booster.  That allows for easier master cylinder fitment, as some of the modern plastic tanks will not clear the port on the fox Bendix.

If your Midland booster is functioning correctly, neither of the other ones will give you any better braking.  If you want to replace your booster because it is not working, the 69 Mustang Bendix booster is a direct replacement bolt-in.  The Fox booster looks just like it but does not fit the factory power brake pedal.  It would use a modified manual brake pedal.  That would give you a little more favorable pedal ratio as far as making the pedal easier, but the booster is not a direct bolt-in and requires welding the new pin on the pedal as well as drilling all new holes in the firewall.

The booster pictured here is the 69 Bendix version that is a direct bolt-in if you want to replace the Midland.  It is 7-1/4" in diameter, dual diaphragm, with same "power" force as the existing Midland.  I stock this booster.  They can be found at some auto parts stores, but not with the required plate on the back side (gold part).  I install a plate so the booster is ready to install.


Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Check out "Modern Driveline", they make an offset linkage for the hydraulic clutch to avoid interference with the brake booster.


65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

Yes, in fact I am installing MD's hydraulic clutch kit.  MD says the clutch MC will fit next to a stock Midland booster, which is 7" diameter.  I'd like to upgrade from my Midland (7") booster to a 8" dual diaphragm booster.  The challenge is, of course, how to get the clutch MC to fit.  I'm curious if anyone has done this, and how they did it.

Using 8' dual diaphram booster and Modern Driveline LF clutch linkage with a 428 FE in my 68 mustang. No clearance issues, I am using a vacuum pump with 4 wheel Wilwoods cause my cam is 642/ 631. 110 LSA. No Problems.
